Subject: Some feedback on homebrew unit

Hey everyone (this is also my first post on Dakka Dakka, and I plan on making an introduction after this so no fear),
I am an avid-IG player but I wanted something a bit unique. I was playing around with some homebrew codex ideas, like a futuristic human socialist republic! Hahaha, much like the Soviet Union but in the 40k universe. I haven't gotten far at all in terms of units or fluff but I have one basic troop and a rough idea of where I want to go with this. I just want a bit of feedback on points and things.
USRDC (United Socialist Republic Defense Corps)
Defense Corps Infantry -
Stats
WS BS S T I W A Ld Sv
3 2 3 3 3 1 1 6 6+
Composition: 5 Infantrymen base
Wargear:
Mark 2 Conscripts "SOB" Combat Rifle-
Str 3 AP -, Rapid Fire
Options:
Can take up to 15 additional infantrymen- X points each
Still thinking of ways to maybe include 1-2 special weapons (maybe 1 special weapon per 10 men?). And for points wise, Im really not sure (was never good with points). For stats I used a IG Conscript, gave him standard WS, one more point of Ld, and 1 less level of Sv (the standard Infantry for the USRDC don't even wear body armor and what is there barely stops rounds by todays standards so I feel like 40K weapons will have ease defeating them. The USR Marines will have better equipment and stats, but less of them).
I envisioned the USR infantry as a easy to slaughter, really cheap, barely efficient, meat-shield for the USR Marines who are the REAL soldiers (more akin to IG vets). I originally had them at 3 points a model but that would mean 15 points to take a 5 man squad.....and 60 points for 20 of them....I thought that was just too little....any comments? Once I fix them up a bit and add more units to the Codex I will write full out fluff for them...until then any questions in that regard ask because I do have a rough vision for them

Its essentially a Conscript Squad... I wouldn't really know what else to say...

Yeah, thats what I was afraid of. At it's core I want this unit to pretty much be conscripts, but I'm struggling to find points and some way to distinguish them....

Basic cultists will have next to no way to distinguish them other than paint in my personal opinion...

Hmm....I may just end up relying on fluff to add some distinguishing to them...so just going off of that, and ignoring the lack of unique properties right now, what would a rough cost end up being. Or I should say, at what points cost would you feel comfortable with me fielding them at.
Edit: That's just with this. I may not give them the option of Special Weapons but....if I do it would only be cheaper ones like flamers and GL's. I don't see these guys fielding Meltas and Plasma, not like it would be much use to them either with a BS of 2....

I see....I like 4ppm mark, that's what I was thinking of to be honest. And no sergeant on these guys, that's an army fluff thing behind why their are not distinguished officers in the rank-and-file

Maybe, then to distinguish them, at the start the shooting phase, roll 2d6. On the roll of a double 1, they open fire on the nearest friendly unit unless their is your HQ Soviet within 12"?
and the roll of a Double 6, they fire Twin Linked on the nearest enemy unit
2 - Feth you!: The *Forgot the name of them....* opens fire on the nearest friendly unit, UNLESS the *Generic HQ Character* is within 12" in which case, you continue as normal this turn.
3-11 Okay Boss...: The *Forgot the name of them....* act as normal this turn... Obidient as ever!
12 - Hey.. Hey Boss! BOSS!!: The *Forgot the name of them....* Open fire on the nearest enemy unit and count any guns wielded by the *Forgot the name of them....* as Twin Linked this turn.

Exactly, and if their Tsar is watching them, then they'll think... actually lads... lets just do what he says this turn...
It'll prompt some form of babysitting and make their cheapness sorta okay.
AND if they get a 12, they'll feel compelled to show off in front of the Tsar !

Okay so let me do some updating!
Defense Corps Infantry - 20 points

Composition: 5 Infantrymen base
Wargear:

Can take up to 15 additional infantrymen- 4 points each
Special Rules:
"Ey, he's watching!"~
At the beginning of each shooting phase, role 2D6 per unit on the field. Then consult this chart:

3-11 Okay Boss...: The unit acts as normal this turn... Obedient as ever!

I dont see the point in them having WS3 unless for some reason the commanders perceive bayonets as the most effective weapon. Its not that hard to shoot a rifle well. Honestly, WS2 and BS2 or WS2 and BS3.
I had an idea with normal IG IS to allow them to take 2 special weapons per squad but limit them to flamers and GL simple because IS shouldnt be handling plasma guns imo. So i think that would work well, give them more of a choice if you want by adding in a "LMG." Make it a salvo weapon, same strength just 2/4.
So 20 men for 80 points with 20 points to spend on gear isnt too bad. You could make the Sergeant a 5 or 10 point upgrade with LD8 for some staying power. Maybe an upgrade for better body armor. I like it, cheap throw away troops with some staying power, so essentially conscripts with the ability to take a sergeant and special weapons. I think that would basically fix conscripts.

Hmm...I guess you're right. I want to keep the BS, and the WS3 is kinda to represent the fact the "soviets" are better at stabbing you than shooting. And with the gun-linish and bubble-wrap nature of them I don't see them hitting melee too often and when they do 1 more point of WS isn't gonna fix whatever you screwed up hahahaha so I see that as kinda irrelevant.
I like the special weapons idea you have. I may make it like 1 special weapon per 10 men. That gives you 2 in a 20 man squad. And I was thinking of allowing them a "lmg team" too. Just to allow some variety in how someone would want to run them. I also like the sergeant as an upgrade. I want to stay away from including leaders in the troops choices by default because of the fluff behind them. However the upgrade thing would be cool, but instead of adding a "Sergeant" im thinking more of adding a "Commissar" (a sergeant equiv. Not the IG like commissars) to fit the soviet theme. Let me do some points crunching and writing and I shall make an upgrade
Edit: UPGRADES! Again, points are just kinda a crap-shoot until I can get some discussion down on the use of them...

Three things!
1: Since no one seems to comment on things if they are okay, im guessing I nailed it down (close enough to) with that?
2: Working on an HQ unit and another troops choice as well.
3: Anyone have a good template for Fandex's? Would make this so much easier

Like them here. Only problem is rolling 2d6 for each unit might be irritating, but that's a minor problem. maybe let them have big squads - 5-80 dudes maybe? What would a commissar do? standard IG commissar I presume? If so, 10 pts seems a bit cheap.

Hmm.....I will think about unit sizes a bit. Some play testing will help me. Oh, and the Commissar is NOT a normal IG commissar. It's just a fancy name for a sergeant.

Playtesting should be good, thanks for clearing up the Commissar, that explains the low points cost.
