There's no official model, but there are a lot of substitutes out there. In my opinion, the coolest is the Megabloks Plasma Hatcher Egg, if you can snatch one up on ebay for around $20 they look very cool.

Maxmini makes the best looking one. Mostly because the carapace armour and talons on the tentacles match the GW Tyranid line.

I prefer Crusader Casting (PM link in thread), Puppet's War and one not mentioned in that thread:
Hydracast:
http://hydracast.blogspot.de/p/drop-spore.html

The Armorcast (and maxmini?) ones are too small, the Chapterhouse one is a bit naughty

a) they're big enough to hold a Carnifex in a foetal position, which is as big as they should be
2) the Space marine drop pod isn't big enough to hold anything that can actually take it, bar maybe a combat squad
iii) there is no official mycetic spore model, so questions about sizes are always going to be based on opinion. As I said above, if it's big enough to hold a Carnifex in a foetal position, it's big enough to be a mycetic spore.

A friend of mine who is just getting into the game uses a nerf football he cut in half.

I like the ones in this thread better.

This applies to almost every transport in the game.

Nice I have not seen Maxmini's pod before.

Guy at my local store uses a gourd with greenstuff tentacles. It looks pretty convincing.

Exactly.

I used the drop pod as an example because it's the closest comparison to the mycetic spore, but yes, no transport is the right size in 40k.

As it is, the Maxmini pod is by far the best looking mycetic spore on the market, and even unlike every other 40k transport, it's actually big enough to hold the biggest model it would ever transport (if you consider the Carnifex wouldn't be in its walking pose while in the pod, but would be in a foetal position).

A friend of mine uses the "Mega Brands Dragon Universe" eggs

painted to match his army, they look really cool on the table, and they are about the same size as a Drop Pod.

This is what one of them looks like:

Tastes differ obviously. I prefer these:

Hydracast:

Puppet's War:

Crusader Casting (left, plus OOP Epicast on right):

The only one there that even looks remotely decent is the hydracast spore.

Which is hilarious, because when I posted that guys Tervigon a while ago, I got a nice yelling at for posting his models which might get a C&D sent to him.

Honestly, the others are all pretty terrible, bar the Forgeworld Hormagaunt brood nest you snuck in there.
