Hey Dakka,

I've never played either warmachine or hordes but was wondering how easily the above mentioned model can be fielded. I've fallen in love with the model and am half considering buying an army around it. I assume the model is extremely expensive point wise, but is there any viable way to integrate this beast into a half way viable starter army.

Thanks

most of the colossal/gargantuans are in the 18-20 point range. I don't know much about trolls, but you could probably field him in a decent 35+ point list.

So yeah, you could use him, but I wouldn't start with him. I would learnt eh game with a starter box army and slowly build up to 15, then 25 then 35 points.

Because of the way army building works (You start with a Warlock who gives you 4-6 bonus points to spend on beasts), you could technically take him even in a 15pt game, though he would be a very poor choice at that level.

I think the Mountain King really needs a fair bit of support to shine, and would do the best in 50pt games, though I've faced one at 35pts before and he was quite effective.

I played him in two 35pt games yesterday. In the first he did a good job, but the second was a mistake on my part. I like it, but it definitely takes a bit of practice to get him to work well. Learn the rules and get used to them before picking up the King. Oh, and something they don't tell you is that you'll need a box of Whelps to make it work properly; only a $15 add-on that can be easily integrated into the rest of your army.

Majority of the tournament scene in my area or that I hear of is 50pts, and a Gargantuan will EASILY fit into that army size.

Yup, its quite surprising how easily you can take one.

It's not so much that you can, but should you? Few to none of the colossals/gargantuans are able to be fielded effectively just by themselves and a caster.

Calandra can work really well with just a King. She won't be doing anything besides giving out rerolls, but still...
