I don't get why people are going so crazy over this thing. Everywhere I look people talk about how good it is including some people at my FLGS. It's a standard CC dread that does exceptionally well against tanks and is a bit more resilient. My biggest complaint is that the extra attacks are useless against squads. Can someone please enlighten me?

He moves 12" instead of 6". He ignores difficult terrain. He has fleet of foot. This beast is very powerful and dangerous...much more then CC Dread.

The model's sweet?

I like it (I don't like it's carnifex-esque cousin).

I only wish it was a MC.

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

double the movement speed for double the price. Maulerfiends cost an arm a leg and your firstborn child.

Pro's-12" move. Ignores cover. Fleet. 5++, daemonforge, regeneration, magma cutters and lasher tendrils do have their individual uses
Con's- more expensive than a landraider for 1 less HP and 12/12/10 armor

You have this 100% wrong. You can fit two maulerfiends in for 1 LR. I don't know where you're getting this idea from. This, however, doesn't change the fact they I feel like they're not very useful.

With magma cutters, it utterly destroys vehicles (except walkers) and buildings. I think this would be your main target for it.

With lasher whips, it ties up non-vehicles.

It's crazy fast - which is exactly the trait that CC walkers need - and its toughness is comparable to that of an Ironclad.

Of course it looks pretty poor on its own, it's not meant to take on whole squads and win. You need to support it with something else. Bikers, Raptors, Spawn...anything that can keep up with it. Anything to tie up enemies that are actually threatening to it, while it does its thing. Likewise, you can consider the Mauler itself to be an addon to your normal fast choices; powerfists on champions are less advisable now, thanks to the Champions of Chaos rule, so you can equip them with something that will help them win challenges while the Mauler runs around wrecking face.

For that matter, if you're running a mechanised assault list, the Mauler will be very useful in tying up particular enemies while the rest of your assault force disembarks. It's also resilient enough to take the brunt of Overwatch shots in a combined assault.

Its main two weaknesses are walkers (due to low initiative) and larger squads (due to low numbers of attacks), so you need to use it together with other stuff, not just on its own.

Is it just me or is it a little scary that you can get 3 fiends and 3 dreds (I don't care what they're calling them these days) for 690pts? Talk about a kan wall. I could see running three fiends as a mobile wall for raptors or bikers. Let the troops apply grenades for the fiends (does it work like that? I've never found info) and use the fiends to munch hard stuff. I could see a very finesse play where as you move for the charge fiends go right, raptors go left. Pincer onto target unit. With lasher tendrils on the fiends the negatives would mostly apply to the enemy pinned between and severely limit counterattack. Thoughts? Could be a good way to neutralize deathstars. Even two fiends with two tendrils (the book says it applies a minus 4 to attacks) can tarpit most things for some time.

HIDING IN THE METAL BAWKSES!!

It's a good fire magnet, moves fast, cant be slowed by terrain and looks big and impressive. It will actually do damage when it gets there.
So your opponent is not likely going to ignore it. And depends on how lucky you are with 5+ save it might just soak up a lot of anti-tank fire!

It cost exactly the same as a Furioso, with the ups and downs in comparison.

I think it's perfect for me, as I absolutely LOVE Daemonic war machines...

Points wise, I'm happy with no real changes needed to the points. For 125 I have an absolutely perfect "first wave" of insane daemonic murder machines to disrupt and distract whilst I rain my other forces from the sky or advance up aggressively.

Like everything in this six sided world we live in it has weaknesses and at times no hope of winning ever, but as long as it runs up, forces enemy to abandon his/her original plan and occasionally munches down a few tanks Im happy.

Also, Christ the model is gorgeous! Going to get 3 maulers in a heart beat and 3 hellbrutes

its all models in contact. so if you can assault something, survive 2 turns and then wrap your other assault troops around the outside of the pile you can wreck face. Not a viable tactic but it would be fun to watch Deathcompany have 1 attack a base.

I cannot get over how damn awesome the Maulerfiend is. Always, always field this mofo in pairs. And back them up with something surprising, like deepstriking termies, helldrakes or warptalons.

I recently fielded a 1000 pt army of two MF, along with a helldrake, two squads of basic cultists, a 8x squad of havocs w/4xautocannon and a termie squad w/ twin LC lord, and it ripped through my Tau opponent.

The first one got hit with three lucky shots and blew up one entire cultist squad. The second one arrived in CC aong with my deepstriking termies and the helldrake and COMPLETELY and UTTERLY meesued up the Tau firing line. That one Maulerfiend soaked up half of the entire Tau army's firepower, and assualted five times. It killed three squads and one crisis suit team in four turns, and absolutely totally messsed up any tactival plan my opponent had. THe shear thread of the machine is stunning. Absolutely OP/IMBA machine, which should be included in any Chaos SM army.

Rememeber, this "assault dread" has:
12" move
Ignore Cover
5+ invulnerable save
5+ regeneration of HP
2+ ignore stunned and shaken
3 attacks
1 almost guaranteed extra S8AP1 hit
12-12-10 armour
3 HP

For the same cost as a dreadnought/hellbrute with a studpid twin las.... Field two of them and they will cause absolute chaos ( )in the mind of your opponent. The shear fear factor of these machines is phenomenal, and without equal.

my preferred 1000 pt army:
Lord, mk of Khorne, term. arm. + twin LC
4x termies w/2x twin LC, 1x PF, 1xReaper
2xcultists w/Heavy stubber
1xHelldrake w/baleflamer
2xMaulerfiend w/magma cutters
1x8Havocs w/4 Autocannons

turn 1: move/run the Maulers with the cultists in turn 1, snap shot while getting into firing position w/havocs.
turn 2: helldrake +termies arrive, causing havoc in enemy lines. Termies deep strike and kill something trhough shooting. At least one Maulerfiend assaults (make sure you assault something that takes TWO assault phases to kill), Havocs shoot 1 priority unit.
turn 3: Havoc kills something else w/baleflamer and vector strike, then gets killed Surviving termies shoot and assault. Maulerfiend(s) assaults second unit. Havocs shoot 1 priority unit.
turn 4: Havocs shoot 1 priority unit. Maulerfiend(s) regenerates HP. Havocs shoot 1 priority unit.
etc.

The trick is to assault /shoot units in turn 2 with termies, Maulerfiend(s) and helldrakes, and then weather the storm of FP, assault in turn 3 and kill everything.

best tactic ever,

Maulerfiends in pairs scare the living nasty outof your opponents.

Yea, it's called a monster mash list. Throw in some drakes and you've got a scary list. Maulerfiends make for great tarpits. Just be wary of melta bombs and krak grenades.

I run 2 of them along with spawn, seekers, and daemonettes with fire support from noise marines, oblit squad and helldrakes. Good for extreme intimidation and target saturation.
