Anyone know what or why an airbrushs nozzle would break in the area where the needle sticks out? The nozzle has not been dropped or anything. It looks like it corroded (spelling), and when I blasted air/paint through it broke off.

I use watered down simple green inbetween paint changes with a rinse of water. I also use regular ole vallejo airbrush paint thinner and a cleaner from them.

Pictures will help.

What airbrush? brand? model?
They all have ever so slightly different nozzle set ups.

I've had 1 nozzle break in half leaving the thread part stuck in the airbrush (luckily a cheap brush)
And another became deformed with an accident with a tip reamer and got replaced (for a much more expensive brush - the nozzle/needle replacement was about £30-40 which is more than the cheaper brush cost entirely)

Tips/nozzles, needles and o-rings are all considered consumables in an airbrush and all will need replacing at some point in the airbrushes life time. Propper care only extends their life span somewhat, theyre still almost guaranteed to go at some point.

Pictures might help as stated by scooty puff, its hard to envisage exactly how your brush has broken from what you have described. Corrosion might be todo with your cleaner though, a common culprite is vinegar in glass cleaners which will literally strip the chrome plating from an airbrush and make it failry worthless.

I think the pic would be too little to actually see - its small, but enough to matter. It's an iwata harder Steinbeck 2 in 1 - so you guys think it might have been the watered down simple green then maybe? I have had 2 nozzles do this with a 6 month shelf life roughly.

I'm sure we could see it in a pic aslong as you can get the camera to focus afterall we see pictures of highly detailed mini's on this site and theyre usually fine.

Iwata and Harder & Steenbeck are two seperate companies with different lines of airbrushes. You say 2in1, which leads me to think its H&S as I have a H&S Evolution solo, and saw that they offer '2in1' versions of all their brushes.
They have atleast 4 or 5 different airbrushes in their line. Which one do you have?
I think all their nozzles work the same. I'm really confused as to how you broke the tip by blasting some paint through, the nozzle doesnt even petrude from the nozzle cap on my Evolution Solo, only the needle pokes out which is surrounded by a needle guard anyway.
How ever it broke, replacement parts are certainly available for H&S (and iwata), Everysingle part of the airbrush is replacable so you should be able to find the part you need.
My only idea is that the cleaner has corroded the piece in question, Try using iso propyl alcohol or acetone, or your paint brands airbrush cleaner (if possible). Acetone can be harsh to o-rings and rubber seals in airbrushes, My evolution Silverline Solo claims to have solvent resistance o-rings and it seems okay with that.

Off the top of my head...

Are you using tap water? With your simple green and to rince? If your tap water is heavy in minerals it could have something to do with it. Use distilled water. a Gallon at your local pharmacy will set you back about $2 and last you for a long time.

Get a little bottle and keep a mix of dilluted simple green and distilled water for cleanups.

If you are only using vallejo thinner and cleaner I do not see where the trouble could be coming from. As I have the same airbrush as you and use the same two products.

The only different being I use distilled water.

Have you ever watered down paints with Windex or something like that? While using Windex does work it needs to be ammonia free version or else it will attack the chrome in your airbrush.

It is an infinity not iwata sorry bout that. Yes, I was using tap water. I have not done anything with windex etc...everything I have used or use etc I posted. I bought 2 new nozzles and 2 new needles $77 ouch. My nozzle cap covers my nozzle and the needle prutrudes slightly. The part that the needle protrudes out is broken off on one side. Looks like busted rusted metal.

The most common reason that this part will break is if you pull the trigger back then let go.
The trigger should be eased back and forth during use, never released to spring back.

Ok that could be the culprit because I have done that before. thank you and I will be more conscious of this.
