I just got a friend back into 40K after 17 years. He went hunting in his parents attick for his guys and low and behold he's got two rogue trader era dreadnoughts. Are these legal for tourny play. If he brings them to local FLGS is he gonna be branded TFG?

Also they are lead, should I wear gloves while refurbishing them for him?

They're most probably going to need some modification to update their weapons to a current legal load-out, but otherwise should be fine. Most people would think it was cool to see them on the table, even if they are a little tragic by today's modeling standards.

You're not going to have any problems with the lead unless you're planning on sucking on them.

Wait i'm not supposed to do that

OT: It's an official GW model, no problems unless it has gear it doesn't have access to in the current rules.

Things you may want to do, however do not need to do.

I'm not sure of the basing on those guys, only saw 1 a couple years back. Even though you do not need to rebase it is considered good for lack of a better word "manners"

Also as said above, double check the loadout or talk to your opponent beforehand to use counts-as, or even if it looks relatively similar.

Again Tourney play is way different than fun play ^^

I still use my RT era Chaos dreadnoaught that looks like ED-209 from Robocop

"Suffering is Faith, Faith is Strength.

Generations have suffered with the same devotion that we can offer but once. Still, our Faith leads us through these dark times like a beacon. It will guide us to triumph over these abominations. Either by breaking them upon us like waves against a limitless, golden peak or by thrusting through them like the spear of the Immortal Emperor Himself." - Cannoness Aoife, Order of the desert rose #Yesallwomen

They're as legal for tournaments as the TO wants them to be. We won't be able to definitively answer this question for every tournament out there.

It should be fine, but it'd pay to check with the TO first.

I'll be the one refurbishing them for him, so I will make sure they are on appropriate bases and I will go over with him what weapon loadouts are available. I doubt we'll get to a tourny with them.

Funny enough I asked him where he got them because I got him into the hobby well into 2nd edition and I never once saw one (RT era dred) for sale. He found them in a comic store in Florida for $2 a piece. He asked the store owner why they were so cheap, the owner stated that he couldnt sell them due to the large "CONTAINS LEAD" warning label on the front. Was a real lucky find.

Hes also got 2 second ed Carnifexes that I am gonna have to alter with some greenstuf so they dont look so comical. Cant have the other nids making fun of them.

On re-basing, you could probably get away with stating at the onset of each game: You measure up to 1" away and you hit/contact it but I have to measure from the base for shooting/assaulting. That way, the person can't complain you are modeling for advantage or anything. That, or put them on dread base sized cards for the game.

The only "hobby" GW is interested in is lining their pockets with your money.
