I play a standard TAC Mech Ultramarine shooty army. Rifledreads, Vindis, Speeders and Tacticals in Rhinos. What do you guys think is our biggest weakness so I can decide on an ally to cover it. It feels like we are so well rounded we dont need allies but Im not 100% sold on that yet. Surely some ally could bring something to our army that could really competitively make our army better.
Any thoughts?

In most shooty armies, your weakness is going to be assault. so in that regard I would look to select armies that excel in that regard, but also look towards armies that are battle brothers to best synergize with. I would look at space wolves, as you get a strong troop choice that you must take, along with a strong cc hq or a good psyker hq as well. plus some decent cc units in thunder wolves. plus they all serve well as defensive units with counter charge.
p.s. im rather inebriated at this moment, i may regret this at the moment, but I stand by my choice.

Or opt out of assault all together and have some counter assault and instead do shooty well, with Tau allies

From what I've seen, good allies for C:SM are. space wolves for rune priests, tau for broadsides, and IG for high str templates and massive amounts of bodies to gum the works up.

Sounds like a pretty balanced list that is capable of doing a lot. Standard Marines/Vanilla Marines are really good at adaptability so I'd say that it would all depend on your opponent, If you were going to face nids, i'd say add more shooty and at least one monster hunter unit. For me when i face nids I try to bring shots and some thunder hammer stormshield termies. They make short work of a monstrous creature or two before being brought down.
I play Dark Angels, I know that when I play people know to eliminate my bikes/speeders and know I'm bringing TT/ SH termies and pop everything they can before getting close. So short story long know who you're facing and adapt your list accodingly!

I would say that we lack the AA firepower needed to counter armies like a Necron Air Force. I'm not a big fan of the Stormtalon; an IG ally with some vendettas would be cheap and efficient.
I've found that when you try to ally with other space marine chapters you lose too many points in the mandatory troop requirements. One of the more cost-conscious allies would be Belial and a squad of Deathwing Termies you definitely get your money's worth in that case.

+1 to this. Tau or IG would synergize very well with your army. Or Grey Knights/Space Wolves if you want to stay full- MEQ.

Your biggest weakness if that your whole army is vehicles. So if taking allies, take something that is a good counter to armies that can kill vehicles quickly, e.g. Necrons.

I have been pondering this as well.
But, there will be times you can't avoid staying 6" away from Necrons, which means a chance of a unit doing nothing at all...one eye open or something like that.
But, I was thinking, 5 necron warriors in a Night Scythe, and the cheap special character GWB that randomly buffs the warriors. It comes to a cost of roughly 330 points and they focus on anti tank and flyers.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Lol no, I meant Necrons are an example of an army that will smash his with ease. In other words, get an ally that counters Necrons well.

What army is that? Would that mean just more bodies like more foot spam?

Are necrons really great at smashing vehicles?
They only have a few options at antimech none of which are perfect, probably the worst for marines will be doom scythe but purely as it is a flyer.
Bizarre question:
Tell me what I find I am lacking on the battlefield when I play my army...
..so I can then research all codices and find an answer.
How about you think about what you die to or find hard to counter and then ask others who collectively know the other codices help.
I vote imperial guard. They have nice aeroplanes and blob squads.

Night Scythes... twin-linked, medium strength, handful of dice shots, tesla for lulz, is pretty good at killing light/medium armor spam (esp. the speed at getting to side armor).
It's a dedicated transport too.
Granted, 3 times the cost of our rhinos.
