Latest main rulebook contains the immortal line, in the section on issuing challenges, "Tyranids roar in bowel-loosening fury".
"What can you see, Corporal?"
"Termagants sir. Fahsands of 'em. And... they're shouting, and sort of... gakking themselves."
"That's a Tyranid war-soiling, lad. They're tactically gakking themselves, to prepare for War. In the grim darkness of the 41st millenium, There Is Only War. And Gak." Automatically Appended Next Post: Also a good way to spot Genestealer Cultists who attempt to infilitrate into positions of power in the Imperium.
"You should have seen Ambassador Therius last night -- he got so angry he gakked himself."
"Burn the heretic!"

Sigged good sir. I would never have noticed, but now that you've mentioned it, I can't stop laughing.

Someone once told me this about Porsche Panameras:
"There are two Panamera's in my hood. Visual pepper spray. When Jesus was on the cross and cried out "Father, why have you forsaken me?" it wasn't because of the whole crucifixion, it was because he foresaw the design of the Porsche Panamera."
You learn something new everyday. |

Drk, you may be right, though I'm not sure how one creature's anger can have such an effect on another's sphincter muscles, unless it's some kind of psychic attack.
Even then, though, does this mean that Tyrannic War Veterans should be modelled with a load of field toilets?
"We're expecting Tyranids, lads. Squad Furius, sentry duty. Squad Hatius, combat patrol. Squads Angrius, Killius, Murderius, Zealius, and Crusadius, I want to see three hundred latrines dug by nightfall."

Also if you get surprised or scared enough, you gak yourself

Really? You've never heard of this? Bowels being loosened by fear, engendered by earth-shattering noises like shelling, explosions, low overflights by enemy jets?
Shows how many folks play GW games who've never read about real war.

Read any book containing soldiers accounts of WW2, or any other war.
An 'accident' is assured the instant any shelling happens, or when people start dying.

The point is that it's not the roar that loosens the bowels, according to the strict syntax of GW's sentence. It's the anger that loosens the bowels. And I still suspect that one critter getting angry cannot cause another critter's bowels to loosen, unless psy power is going on. :p
(And, yes, I've read extensively about real war -- I could counterpoint something about, "shows how many people read threads without really reading them", but I don't wish to respond to impoliteness with impoliteness, so I'll just stick to my guns. My bio-guns. That presumably shoot gak. If I'm a tyranid. At least, if I'm an angry tyranid.)

Fear is actually one of 2 emotions that can loosten bowels. The other is excitment.
A particularly scary sound is more then capable of making someone void their innards.

Fear of the monster's fury could certainly do it. Seems legit to me.

What about anger, Grey? That can loosen bowels too, but only in Tyranids. Apparently. Automatically Appended Next Post: Fear of the monster's fury isn't as funny (to me, at least) as a squad of Tyranid Warriors gakking themselves to issue a challenge.

Ehhhh, not sure about that one. I suppose it can loosen bowels, but I would suspect it might be because Anger is closely tied to the Fear emotion.
And just about anything can loosen bowels when the person in question is having "The Runs" as we in the agricultural world call it.

Well, it's not that obtuse really.
A) It's a fairly well established cliche that some people wet themselves when afraid. It's frequently used in hollywood movies (e.g. Gladiator). gaking yourself as you hear Tyranids howl outside could be the grim-dark next level.
B) Plenty of animal gak themselves when afraid (ever pick up that pet bunny from your neighbours only to have it gak all over you?). Nids at the gate ("ultimate predator, yadda, yadda) could perhaps "throw-back" men to the primordial state of scared prey in the minds of GW writers.
Also, "Anger" is an emotion that serves the precise purpose of intimidating your opponent. Arguably Nids likely wouldn't be capable of "anger" since the very point of anger is cowing your opponent into submission / retreat via a display of rage and threat to avoid a confrontation in the end.
