Hey all!

I'm completely new to DE. I love their appeal, their style, the fluff, the units, the gameplay--pretty much everything about them. I've heard that they're somewhat difficult to play well with so I was wondering if anyone had a 500 pt competitive list they would care to share. I really have no idea where to start and only know basic strategies. I have read Dashofpepper's DE guide but man, was it dense. So yeah, 500 pt. list for local tourney, possible allies include Eldar and possible enemies most likely IG and Tyranids.

Cheers,
Gunslinger

Errr at 500 points I would just get as many Warriors in Raiders as you can. Lots of strong mobile shooting shoot see you through.

A squad of 5 warriors with a blaster in a Raider with NS comes to 130 pts. 3 of those or 2 and a razorwing/ravager along with a cheap Archon (venom blades and Shadow field) should do fine in a smaller game.

Try to keep your raiders out of range of enemy shooting. (should be fairly easy against nids and IG i think, maybe not. dont really know what they run.)

You could aways spam squads of warriors as well. 3 squads of 10 behind a aegis D-line and a single ravager, razorwing to support.

Five hundred points can be run two ways: load up Raiders with Warriors and shoot the enemy to death while outrunning them, or load up Raiders with Wyches and chop them to pieces while outrunning them. I personally prefer Warriors, but that's just me.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I like the warriors in raiders idea but I hear that Archons are only truly useful in 1500+ pt. games so what about, say a Succubus with a husk blade? I don't have my dex on me so I can't check values but I heard this is a decent cheapish HQ. But at the same time, I don't know how effective this will be considering I'm not really running CC/ wyches

Your probably gonna want a squad devoted to taking out the few vehicles your opponent has, because raiders are never much of a help. so i would probably include a 6 man squad of reavers with heat lances to go along with your kabal gunboats. GOOD LUCK!

Oh and in answer to your hq question i would probably get a haemonculi w/ hexrifle attached to a 3 man squad of wracks at 500pts, hope this helped

Welcome to DE! I have used this list in 6 500 point games for a league and it performed well against competitive builds. Here is a general outline
Haemonculi (substitue with a succubus if you would like.)
Warriors in a Venom
9 Wyches in a Raider
Ravager
Change wargear however you want, the list is flexible. It has an assault unit that can deal with most threats at that points level and potentially be your best vehicle killer. As many as five lances (more if you take blast pistols, but they're not optimal), solid shooting, both anti infantry and ant-tank. I also reccomend Thor's guide, it is easier to apply to this edition than DoP's, which is still a great guide

In small games I've found this list (or thereabouts) works wonderfully.

Haemonculus with Liquifier Gun and Venom Blade

3 Wracks with 1 Liquifier Gun
Venom with splinter cannon

5 Kabalite Warriors
Venom with splinter cannon

6 Kabalite Warriors
Raider with dissies

Ravager

About 500 points

Splinter cannons and rifles decimate light infantry, while you have some disintegrators on the raider if you find the odd terminator etc I love liquifier guns and in this list you can have 2 - they may be your only method of dealing with 30 gaunts for example.

Of course you should fight fire with fire. You should fight everything with fire.

Damn. While this list sounds truly potent, I just.. I just....venoms are not my thing. Not sure why, I just don't really like them. What about Raiders and warriors though? And what if the point limit was 750? Sorry about all the questions!

I have run this list recently against eldar and space wolf players, won both games. The Talos run upfront taking fire, with army advancing. There isn't alot in 500pts which can stand against 2 Talos. And its a 21 model army. Transports never lasted long in small games, as the field is a lot smaller and most of them are then in instant range. Ones destroyed, the units take big casualties.

HQ
Haemonculus (Liquifier Gun, Venom Blade)

TROOPS
Kabalite Warriors x 10 (Blaster, Splinter Cannon)

Wracks x 8 (Liquifier Gun)

HEAVY SUPPORT

As much as I like the sound of it, I'm not a huge fan of foot-slogging DE. I adore raiders and they're ideas. Venoms, not so much, but many people tell me that in a lot of situations venoms are better for the task at hand
