Hey guys.

I've played 40k and WHFB for about 2 years off and on now, and have a couple of armies and such for those systems; but recently my other half has expressed an interested in my Models, and specifically Lord of the Rings stuff. I figured it can't hurt to indulge her a little and pick up a few armies and teach her to play, however, i don't know very much about the LotRs system myself.

So, what is the best way to learn LotRs? Should i just get a demo game and the mines of moria box set? I seem to recall a "two towers" box set too, but i can't find that anywhere. Would it be worth scouting one out on ebay? What other advice/ suggestions can you guys offer me?

Many thanks, Hetelic

Well, you can buy the big Hardcover GW rulebook, or pick up a paperback one on ebay. The paperback one is also available in the starter set, which also comes with some dice, the fellowship, a small Moria army, and some scenery.

I recommend picking up the main rulebook, the sourcebook for your army/armies of choice (or the starter set, if you choose to go that route), and some models.

As for specifically which army, well, show her a bunch of them, see which she likes best ^^

before you choose an army, go with what Dr What said.
if she's interested in the gaming side, it's probably better to get the mines of moria- rulebook has just the rules, scenery, two opposing sides.
if she's interested in the painting or modelling side of things, I'd go with the hardback book, because it's got a load of tips and step-by-step guides on how to paint and model various armies.

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.
corpsesarefun: Thank god I missed be nice to shrike day.
greenskin lynn: because of all the skittles and soda, you basically live off sugar water, like some sort of freakish human-hummingbird hybrid.
