Really sorry if this has been done to death or if it's an obvious answer. I'm relatively new and I'm not sure how to go about searching this particular question. Attempts on Google have been unclear.
Let's say I take a squadron that includes a Bane Wolf and Devil Dog. In addition to the melta cannon, I equip it with a multi-melta. When I want to fire the blast and multi-melta in the same turn, my understanding is that I need to position the template over the same target that I've aimed the multi-melta at, meaning the hole at the center of the template must be over the hull/model. Is this correct?
Now, in regards to the Bane Wolf, we assume I exploded a transport with the Devil Dog. Since the BW and DD are in the same squadron and must fire at the same target, it seems to me that I just can't fire my chem cannon - the original targeted model no longer exists. Is this the case, or am I now free the fire at the models that have been forced to disembark?
Thanks in advance.

All weapons from one unit must fire at a single enemy unit. P.13 (So you must put the template over a model in the unit the Multi Melta shot at). All of the shooting from one unit is simultaneous (P. 13 as well) So you can not destroy a transport with one weapon and use other weapons from the same unit on the surviving passengers. you can shoot at the passengers with a different unit though.

You can't remove the target until all weapons from all vehicles have been resolved, so your scenario isn't possible - the transport would still be there for the Bane Wolf to shoot.

Thanks, in retrospect it really was pretty obvious.
Just trying to determine that there is no benefit to putting those two in a single squadron.

Correct, typically you want to maximize similar weapons in squads/squadrons to maximize likelihood of them "working" properly.
For IG the fast attack slot is typically given to Vendettas, however I can see Hellhounds doing well with this blob meta people are shifting towards.

Meltacannon is extra hot awesome sauce. Toasts vehicles and is still a threat to TEQ/ MEQ. Honestly, 1 or 2 vendettas is plenty and a meltacannon or two with some supporting russes and chimmera makes a solid spear head. The Devil Dog is the poor mans demolisher. Of course being FAST instead of HEAVY is pretty good.

The single most important benefit is the ability to take several vehicles at the cost of only a single choice on the FOC.
This comes at the cost of having to fire at the same target, so some limitations are placed regarding which vehicles it is smart to squadron together.
A second, and somewhat small, benefit is gained from the fact that hits are allocated to the nearest vehicle just like in the normal wounding process.
This allows one member of the squadron to "protect" other members with proper placement. This could allow a cheap Griffon to "run interference" for two Medusas, for example.
In the case you describe, the anti-infantry function of the Bane Wolf doesn't really mesh with the anti-armour ability of the Devil Dog and the hull weapons, and there isn't a huge advantage to squadroning these two vehicles.
