Hi guys

Sorry if this has already been answered, tried searching but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I see a lot of guard players raving about Creed and how good he is, but I can't see why.

His stats are the same as a normal ccs except for 1 extra ld, his equipment is ok, but nothing special.
He can obviously do 4 orders at 24" but 2 ccs' can do the same (2 orders each, with 12" bubble each) for cheaper than 1 ccs with creed (and more bodies). His unique order doesn't seem to be amazing either
The only good thing I can see is he can outflank one unit, but one unit is not much.

Or am I missing something?

Please help dakka!!!!

I do not see a lot of guard players raving about Creed. He is not really good imho. Too expensive for his abilities.

I understand the benefit of outflanking a Titan! But would struggle to do that in a regular game!

I think Creed woud become alot more desirable if he wasn't an upgrade to a small, fragile unit like the Company Command Squad. Since most of the Orders' issued require line of sight at the enemy target, your expensive commander is left in a precarious situation, especially with Focus Fire in effect. If the Macharian Cross was still around, then I'd probably consider using him.

Other than his survivability, Creed does bring alot more to the army than a generic company commander:

- Can issue up to four Orders
- A 24" Order radius
- Has the Order For the Honor of Cadia, which is useful IF he stays alive
- A twin-linked hot-shot las pistol that benefits from Precision Strike
- Outflanking One Unit

He's pretty damn decent, if he survives...

Stick him with a couple sitting platoons and bunker him down in a fortification with a Command Squad that has Camo Cloaks, maybe a couple bodyguards also, giving him the maximum surivivability he can grab, then start throwing out orders for your crewded Heavy Weapons with impunity.

for larger games in 2000pts and up i like using creed and kell in my armies. The fact that he can send 4 orders and is at his leadership means that the troops almost wont fail, and all that extra fire power for those orders passing really helps even at the slightest bit even if it causes just one more wound. I never used him for his tactical genius to be honest because i just never thought about using it but havinng a leman russ exectioner with lascannon and plasma cannnon sponsons will really do the damage outflanking your enemy lol. as for honor for cadia, i never really even knew he had that. I dont really know how often I would use that as if the enemy got up close i would rather use FRFSRF and blast them rather than charge them...not even if i had a 50 man blob squad, that would be an even better FRFSRF. It depends on the situation to use him as I dont know if I would want a unit outflanking because I would rather have as much on the board blasting my opponent from turn 1, unless theres night fight. lower point games it would be hard to use creed and then for higher up point levels it can actually be really handy to have him for a nice gunline.

He's good for outflanking 3 hellhounds into your opponent's butt.

Yeah, I agree, which throng of guard players?

Creed has a lot of mandatory upgrades, many of which are difficult to use, making him overcosted for most games (in which you waste some of his abilities).

The only reason to take him is...

... unless you have a VERY specific list build.

basically outflanking any hard hitting unit would be great for creed, the problem though is he just seems to pricey for what he does as I would agree. Your pretty much going to want a hybrid list with him because your going to want a gunline for his orders and with that you will also want units to push forward because your outflanking units will probably get torn up if alone.

He probably does cost a little too much. However, imperial guard are little immobile and ever so slightly sit still and shoot so any tactical deployment should be praised.
Any enemy unit that is hard to reach or get to, if they decide to hide, scouting out to get them is going to be very powerful.
In particular having 2 or 3 demolishers running up to get into range is going to cause carnage to units that your gunline may not be able to get a good shot at. Demolishers kill everything, do not mention flyers.

Now since you can outflank a unit counldnt you outflank a whole guard platoon as a platoon counts a 1 unit in the FOC? if correct then have creed sit in the deployment with a platoon of heavy weapons and use hiw ability to outflank another platoon(i dont know what you would equip to them for them to be effective) and then have AL rahem outflank with the third platoon all mounted in chimeras for some armor. With remaining points add vendettas/and russes for suport. Could that be effective?

That's an interesting point, would an infantry platoon count as the one unit for outflank or each individual squad. Then I can see a use, 50+ men and special weapons popping up would be great!

yes , because with reserve rolls platoons all count as 1 unit , you can outflank an entire platoon

Not sure if this still works in 6th with them being flyers but ...
Vendetta/valkyrie x3 fill them up with special weapon squad with 3 demo charges.
Fly in fast ...
drop the special weapons squads ...
lob 9 demo charges ...
Profit

Expensive though. You can stick 2 flamers and a demo on them for 50 points, instead of 95. 45 points spare for other stuff, with 3 of them that's nearly 2* HWS W/AC or a LRBT or etc. etc. etc.
You could also outfit those Valkryries with MRPs for more large blast fun.
