I've been taking a class this semester on Roman history, and sitting in class I had a bit of deeja-veu. it seemed to me like the Triarch had a lot of parallels to the senate in Ancient Rome. there is an overall leader the silent king and the princeps, then there are two guys under him, the consuls and the other two guys on the Triarch, and then there are the other members of the governing body like the senators, and they're all guarded by praetorians who enforce their will. it just seemed so similar to me that I may just need to make Roman Necrons now. what do you think, do you see the parallels too?

My Cold War NATO IG, love to know what you think

They are basically a copy-paste from Egypt and Rome. Aestetically Egyptian, fluffily Roman and Egyptian.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Wait are you suggesting GW used an idea that is not entirely original and wholly owned and copyrighted by them? Blasphemy!

Yes, they bare a very similar structure to post-Ceasar Rome.

I can relate to you in using wargames to help in class too!
My history course required heavy discussion on the methods of war, which can be easily seen through GW games.

I wonder what grade you'll get when you explain the benefits of charging an entrentched enemy line with power-armor and jetpacks strapped to your back. Pic relevent.

Obviously an A+, I mean, who doesn't recognize the brilliance of Macharius, or the wit and initiative of Zeuhlke (Vraks).

It lacks a true real-world equivelant. More or less the Necrontyr were a collection of Dynasties/noble houses loosely united under the Triarch, a council of 3 Phaerons with the Silent King as its primary representative. When the Necrons became enslaved by the C'tan, the Triarch was completely usurped. Later when Szarekh enslaved the C'tan's, the Triarch never really came back as a form of rule and today there's no unifying force in the Necrons after the Dynasty level.

They have a greek name, anyway.
Tri(three) archon (ruler).
Depends where the legeslative/executive power lies, I guess.

Unnessesarily extravegant word of the week award goes to jcress410 for this:

Extending the analogy, at the time the Eldar were the equivalent of the barbarian tribes that were 'at the gates' while the Necron empire fell.
