So based on the theme of my army that I am going for I am either going to take a unit of Hellions or Scourges. Now I love fluff and never go for the power list but I do want my army to be as competitive as possible.

So in veteran Archons' opinion which is the better unit overall, Hellions or Scourges?

Depends on the rest of your list, really.

Reavers are better than both combined, but if you dont like bikes....

Hellions need the baron to be troops and for stealth and a 2++ save. Without him, there is really no point to taking them.

Scourges can be good, some people like all splinter weaponry to deal with hordes. That way they can move and fire while having all weapons useful. If you use blasters/ heat lances you will still be good against infantry and have AT. If you like haywire blasters, I dont, then you can strip a hull point a turn, but no chance to destroy like blasters or heat lances.

I've used both and don't particularly like either. If I had to choose, I'd pick Scourges, though min-maxing special weaponry is less critical in 6th.

If you do go Hellions, the Baron is a must take. Hellions as troop choices with stealth and hit and run is the only way they approach viablilty. The clear answer to taking a fast attack choice in DE is a Beastpack, especially in 6th.

thanks for the comments guys. I will be including reavers as well(such awesome models plus they apparently ROCK in 6th) but the scourges/hellions are fluffwise a misfit psycopath band of specialists the Archon employs that are always wanting to dive/fly into the craziest situations(think a mix of the Expendables with Halo ODST's but with an obvious Dark Eldar flavor).

Scourges all the way. They cost more, but they shoot more dakka, have better armor(with a 6++) and can grab some nifty AT weapons.

As said above, hellions need the baron just to be playable...

I also think mutant bird people with commando weapons is way cooler than some drugged up kids on a surfboard.
