I had an idea about this a while back and was wondering if anyone else has done this sort of thing before.
Or if anyone else has had the same idea. Since, the earth shaker cannon is also set up as a towed piece then why not the vanquisher cannon that's fitted to a lee man Russ? In this day and age there are some countries that still employ towed anti tank guns. So why not a imperial guard regiment not do the same. I was debating on starting this with a couple different kits. Namely using a cross of bits from the basilisk and some left overs from a storm blade kit. Using, modified org buggy as a towing vehicle. I figure these would do with a few modifications.

Anyone with any suggestions or tips to see this one done? I'll update this as it gets developed.

I say go for it. Rule of cool trumps all. Are you going to actually use it for what it is? If yes, I'd probably build up a centaur artillery tractor instead of a buggy.

I was planing on using it as is. Probably borrowing rules from the towed earth shaker.

Sounds cool, are you planning to do it sort of as a german 88mm carriage, or a two-wheeled setup like a smaller gun.
Keep in mind that a vanquisher cannon fits inside a russ turret, so I think a smaller platform would work (especially as earthshaker carriages look like 88s already)

I always though IG could use more non-vehicle heavy weapons. They have lots of artillery (at least in FW codexes) but no AT guns, or bullet guns (set-peice punisher cannon?)

I was thinking something along the lines of a tracked carriage for the gun. Considering in real terms the normal lemon Russ battle cannon would be a 75mm gun. The vanquisher would be something inbetween a 88mm and a 105mm. I figure using the back half of a org buggy and the taking the earth shakier cradle and taking the barrel off. Replace it with the longer barrel and building the spades. Use another buggy as a towing vehicle. It still in the planning stages. I like the idea of using the wheels and setting it up.

Something of an update: I finally picked up the stormblade. The shadow swords cannon is a go. I even found some bits that will work for making a feed tray for the gun. Now I just need to gather up a few more bits together to make body, and saddle for the gun. If this is a success. I think I'll attempt to do a towed heaven mortar next. But, that's a project for another time. I'll post up more as this project continues to move foreword.

UPDATE: I've decided to go with a tracked bed for the gun. I finally got a figure on the bits needed for the project as a whole, Sadly I haven't the full amount of resources to fully see this through at the minute. I'll continue to pursue it and keep updating this project.

Google 'M1931 (B-4)' for pics of the best known real-world tracked gun carriage. Something similar should be easy enough for 40K.

Thanks. I appreciate the help. That's the sort of thing I was going for.

WAT?

In 'Gunheads' the LRBT is a 120mm cannon (similar to the modern Abrams), with the Exterminator variant's autocannons being a pair of 88mm cannons. I see the Vanquisher as not changing calibre (in other words, staying 120mm) but instead having a longer, perhaps squeezebore barrel and firing a specialized APFSDS round that requires enhanced recoil compensation (hence the difficulty in manufacturing the weapon).

By that perspective I get the idea that the LR's gun is similar to that of the M551 Sheridan light tanks gun. Its chambered in a 155mm but fires from a shorter barrel. By this understanding then a Vanquisher gun is just a long barreled version of a 155mm gun.
