I really like the dark red/brown paint scheme on the word bearer terminater on page 75 in the chaos space marine codex. Does anyone have an idea what colours were used? maybe a nice little tutorial?

I don't have the new Code, but I paint the red for my Word Bearers like this:

Vallejo Grey Surface Primer
VMA Fire Red (base color)
VMA Italian Red (highlight)
VMA Scarlet Red (extreme highlight)
VMA Mahogany (shadows)

Hope that is somewhat helpful.

The one I painted for a friend for Christmas was:
Walmart grey primer
Blood red
boltgun silver
Badab black wash.

Looked just the same...

I wouldn't use a black wash on the red parts of the armor, just on the gunmetal trim for shadows. For any of the red armor, use a sepia or brown wash to go with mahogany/red colors.

army painter red spray primer - dip in black - profit

makes a really nice deep red, the detail work is fairly minimal on regular marines...the whole process takes me about a half hour and I get a decent enough result for rank and file troops
