Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on a Citadel Realm of Battle Table for my shop, and I'm looking for ideas that would work for both Fantasy and 40k. A lot of my guys keep mentioning snow terrain. I personally would like to do something snow based, but like, a tundra during spring thaw. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas on how to actually accomplish that, I'd really like to hear them. As well as ideas for non-snow themed terrain for the next board.

Thanks!

Oooh a tundra themed board with thawing snow would be excellent, I'll have a think and see if i can nut out a way to get the clear melting snow look to the edges of the patches, i'd look at images for reference of antarctic spring thaws and similar the colours would be naturalistic and blend well with either game system!

Building wise...stone buildings work well for both...wood for fantasy. Metal for 40k. Stone for both

If it’s a thawing tundra terrain add:
Darker grass and snow piles over it.
Areas of pooling snow melt, probably in them skull pits, and have running flows from top of hills down.
Mud

Also pine trees
Lots of them.

You can safely use fantasy terrain in 40k too. In the fluff there are some planets which are on a medieval state technologically.

10000pts of Blood Angels
3200pts of 30k Blood Angels
4000pts of Tyranids
3000pts of Eldar
1500pts of Grey Knights
4000pts of Seraphon
4000pts of Daughters of Khaine
2000pts of Skaven
3000pts of Disciples of Tzeentch
1000pts of Beasts of Chaos

What would you suggest for the piles of snow? I would say the texture Mournfang Mountain Snow paint, but, the bottles are so tiny!

spray adhesive and snow flock for the mounds, don't bother with those tiny bottles for something as big as the realm of battle table. I purchased the biggest bag of grass flock I could find for mine and i still used more than half of it

Well, that makes sense. Would you still suggest painting the actual board itself white with the drybrushing and all that jazz or just doing a muddy look while adding the snow flock?

It depends on what stage of melt you wana go with.

If its still early spring late winter than most of the ground will still be covered in snow

Mid spring it would be muddy and a lot more grass showing

Areas that would still have snow though would be near and under trees and areas that would general get more shade (south side?) and areas near snow melt runoff will be cleared of snow in general.

Also I may be wrong on this so Im not sure. I think snow on grass melts slower than if it was on bare ground. So take that into consideration.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

You can keep the board itself pretty plain and use terrain pucks to theme it.

Hrm, alright, well thanks for all the input, looks like my weekend project just became a little more work than anticipated.
