Would you rather have chunky codices with reams of fluff (like GW currently make them) or smaller codices with less fluff but slightly cheaper (like 3rd edition codices, I believe, but neater)?

My vote would be toward chunkier codices because I enjoy fluff but I know not everyone else does.

Personally I would prefer both

Do smaller basic rulebooks that just have the rules - like the boxed set rulebook and SOFTBACK Codexes with colour pic, more fluff and less repeating of the rules in the book.

Yeah, I'd rather the option between both as well. Smaller one would be better for taking to games.

Both.

I'd love to be able to get that mini rulebook from Dark Vengeance on its own. I'd also love for them to do it with codecies aswell, especially know that they're hardback and bigger than ever.

Do you think they could package mini-codexes in battleforces?

It'd probably sell more battleforces... but then $200 battleforces...

Regarding the price, I'd expect at least 200-300 pages s/w or 100 full color pages.

I would much prefer fluff filled and more expensive codexs. I love the lore, it's one of the things that makes Warhammer so engaging and fun in my opinion. However, in an ideal world, more compact and rules exclusive codexs would be awesome to have just for convenience.

Betwixt and Between's Bros 4-1-3 (1750pts)
Strike Force Icarus 24-2-15 (2000pts)
Prince Hiccup and his Merry Band of Caledor: 27-4-5 (4000pts)

Gotta be honest, if they could make a BRB sized codex for my army (or any army really) I'd probably buy it (yea even if it weren't for my army). Just because it would have so much fluff and story and delicious cheese. And maybe a battles section, and hobby section to show how they managed to create all those amazingly detailed figures and vehicles and terrain. I'd assume for some imperial codexes that would get redundant fast, but I'd still probably at least check em out just to see the differences and how all the stories for everything fits together.

I would like the rules available separately from the fluff, one is used when casually reading at home and the other for being useful when playing the game. If they did a better job of separating the fluff from the rules it would be a bit less annoying when playing.

Wow, I would have thought the current codices were small, and I was voting for a larger codex with more options AND more fluff

Consider this:

The old Space Wolves codex is 30-ish pages.

The current one is nearly 3 times the size. Plus you don't need a vanilla Space Marines codex.

~30 pages of fluff
~10-15 pages of modelling
~45-50 Pages Units, Rules, Lists

Paperback, priced about $20. That would be a reasonable codex.

Bigger for me and I'll pay the €.

Have to disagree though that the recent GW Codexes have "reams of fluff".
A lot of it is rehashed, I was sort of shocked at the Chaos 6th Cod, it seemed still stuck on the 13th Crusade (hmm?).

I suppose Im looking for new fluff and expanded fluff not just the relativelty stale universe we have today :(

Put a "Both" button.

Having a large fluff fills book is no problem (and acts as a handy tool to beat away children trying to grab my models)
And a tiny rules only rule book is good for mid-game rule checks and what not.

I'd love to have mini-dexes and mini-rule books in soft cover. I don't really want or need recycled fluff and pictures, or painted examples of models. That is what the internet is for

Big codices. I like fluff, art, painted models, and rules all in there. I think many people who voted for smaller codices don't remember the anemic little pamphlets from 3rd ed.

Both, pocket codices containing only the rules and point costs. And maybe the unit fluff entries.

And then a full on codex with all the fluff and such plus rules and point costs.

I'd buy both, but the pocket codices would allow someone to get into the game for cheaper.

Heck, GW could even give a rules incentive to buy the full size by having faction specific fortifications only in that book.

Hehehe,

Not even other miniature companies have their rules for free online.

In fact, I think the GW specialist games are one of the few games run by major companies where the rules are free.

Flames of War has army lists online for free, but they are worthless without something to tell you the stats of the units, or the basic rules set.
