Hello all, I'm wondering what people think about the fluff for my pirate necron army so that I can make any modifications before I set it in stone.

the basic story is that on the hive world of Tortugus the Eldar unleash a zombie plague to distract the populace while they destroy the necron tomb that lays underneath the planet. the plague spreads from the bottom of the hives up to the top, with the hive nobles barricading themselves in the upper spires while the mid hive populace besieges them attempting to escape the zombies. the imperium declares a quarantine on the planet and supplies are running low. just when all hope seems lost the necron phaeron sends a message reminding the humans of an ancient pact they once made with the tomb. they would be protected as long as the tomb was allowed to re-awaken, and the phaeron offers to convert the remaining human populace into necrons to save them from the zombies. the planetary governor sends a team on a suicide mission to drive the eldar out of the tomb and secure the help of the necrons. the eldar are driven out and in return the remaining humans are converted into high level necrons to form a new dynasty as a vassal to the phaeron.

EDIT: there's an alternative I've been thinking about also. It's based on Pirates of the Caribbean and Davy Jones. basically a pirate Phaeron attacks ships and converts the crew into necrons. to the officers he offers a choice: necron immortality in a high grade body, or death. (he'll even use the "do you fear death?" line) the story will start when he gets overthrown by his first mate, a former rogue trader who takes over the dynasty, and will follow him as he tries to establish a reputation as a pirate.

so what do you guys think? which one should I choose? any modifications I should make?

A couple of points:

One is that humanity as a species didn't exist the last time the Necrons were awake, so 'an ancient pact' is extremely unlikely.

Secondly, I'm not positive the Necrons still have access to bio-transference tech, or would be willing to use it if they did. This, of course, you're completely able to refluff, especially given how Necrons are spread out across the galaxy and can't really call upon each other's resources.

That all being said, I don't think your first story is unworkable, just needs a couple of modifications. Perhaps the Necron Lord offers humanity protection from the zombies (as well as immortality, to sweeten the deal), in exchange for wiping out the Eldar. Once the tomb has been allowed to awaken, the Lord keeps his bargain - but only a few of the ranking humans are given truly sentient forms. The vast majority are sealed up in Warrior chassis, swelling the Lord's legions.

Of course, personally, I prefer the second one. Sounds much more pirate-y.

1. the necrons weren't awake when the pact was made. the eldar tried to wipe out the tomb once before, resulting in the phaeron using the master computer as a lifeboat for his consciousness while the other lord level necrons lost their minds.

2. as far as who becomes what the surviving nobles become lords (there aren't that many left) the nobles retainers become lichguard and deathmarks, the general remaining humans become immortals as punishment for rebelling against the nobles, and the zombies are turned into warriors (these are more 28 days later zombies, technically alive but reduced to basic instinct (eat, sleep, mate)) also the phaeron can't exactly wake up, he's fused himself with the computer so he can't inhabit a body anymore. part of the pact is that the planetary governor will become phaeron when necessary, and the old phaeron will act as a senior adviser with veto power. after being fused with a computer the old phaeron is more interested in collecting information than trying to get a new body

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Eldar would NEVER unleash a Zombie virus. Thats chaos stuff, they wouldn't touch it.

Use story number 2. Its far more likely and cooler.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
