Hi Dakka! In writing a new list I hit a bump and had around 80 points left over. The list is reserves based with most of my troops in fliers or outflanking. There are no gunlines or blobs, but the only thing required to be on the board at the top of turn one is my CCS and 2 artillery pieces. This is a gamble I know, but my intention is that it will lull my opponent into going on the offensive. Now with those 80 points, do I spend it on Marbo or a TDA, Stormshield, Chainfist Lone Wolf? Bearing in mind that Marbo doesn't start on the table, but the Lone Wolf would. Both have their pros and cons - I love Marbo's potential, but I hate the fact that he is just a one shot demolisher. The Lone Wolf will be more likely to do more than just kill a few people then be shot to bits. The problem is, he must start on the table and so will be shot at a lot. Even though he has a 2+ 3++ 5+ FNP, enough small arms fire will bring him down before he even gets to the target. They both act as bullet distractions but Marbo delivers his damage before the bullets come flying, although the Lone Wolf can slow down and possibly kill a Deathstar by challenging or a tough as nails Warlord. Anyway, what do you all think?

I don't know the potential of marbo
I would have taken a lone wolf because they are awesome, the fact that he has to start on the board maybe isn't so bad. he alone can be the difference of if you're whiped of the table by alpha striking on turn 1 or not.

I would take Marbo, because he's Marbo.

You both make excellent points. Marbo is Marbo. Reducing the chance of an alpha strike is a good thing too. Although I intend to keep everything out of LOS which is why I chose artillery over Russes. That won't help much against drop-pods though.

If you have nothing on the board at the end of the turn, you lose IIRC.
1 CCS and 2 artillery pieces eh? How many points is your list? I reckon there would be games where you could lose that on the first turn, and thus lose the game. Depending on the opponents list, of course of course.
I'd go with the lone wolf. As said by SlyasR, LW's are awesome. It will reduce your chances of being lollertabled, with his 2+/3++/5+FNP, he will run up and 'eadbutt the biggest nastiest thing...basically your opponent will have to deal with him, +outflanking incoming fliers and do *something* about those artillery pieces. Marbo just gives you a one shot demo charge then shenanigans- the LW gives you another target for the enemy (which is a good thing, for saturation and all that jazz) and will potentially eat daemon princes/commanders/MC's/tanks in midfield, taking pressure off your arty and cowering CCS.

drop pods or mobile armies like DE. And if they go first you could potentially need to weather 2 shooting phases. Take the lone wolf, it wont help much but it will help.

Thanks for the advice, looks like Lone Wolf is the better option. I'm aware of the risk involved with a small amount of units on the board at the start of turn one, but I think it's worth a try. This is more of a "hey let's see if this idea works!" and then alter it to cover the weaknesses. I may have to substitute out 2 vet squads for a platoon. As Steve Gutenberg says: No risk, no reward.
