I posted a list a little while ago, this is for the same campaign. Escalation, increases each month, list has to stay the same once it's used. I've been trying pure coven lists but imo the only coven unit that really works well are the pain engines. So I've thought of a new one and would like some opinions!

Heam, LG 60
4 Wracks 40
Venom, SC 65

5 Warriors, Blaster 60
Venom, SC 65

Talos, CF 110

Cronos, SV 100

Tactics will vary but either hang back and shoot then push forward, or just throw MCs up front to pose a threat that needs dealing with while taking advantageous positions with venoms.

What do you tihnk?

I'd argue the only coven unit that really works well are the wracks(with aid from Haemy), cheap unit that can be bought with a venom!

Have you given the list a try yet?

But here are some suggestions:

-3 Wracks(well 2 depending on how you like to read it as, basically minimal size) + hexrifle acothyst will cost just a bit more than 4 wracks, but they get to do something instead of just being there for the venom and mandatory troop slot.

-HWG wyches may be better than the warriors, I've personally not have much luck with the warriors when I fielded them that way in 5th, I just didn't feel the need to run my precious venom up for that single blaster shot on infantry/vehicle, which has a chance of missing, then leaving my venom in a dangerous range... So if I'm buying a troop unit for that slot, I might as well go for the current best AT option, which would cost the same anyway!

Nope, haven't given it a try yet. Up till now i've been going with all foot Wracks/Grots/Talos. The MCs are the only thing with any decent damage output, and with twin linked Splinter Cannons and the flame and large blast templates, they are quite dangerous at range too.

I've had rubbish experience with the Hexrifle, one shot is just not enough! I was thinking of dropping a Wrack for Nightsheilds on the Warrior Venom though, as you say they get dangerously close by the time the warriors are in range.

I have thought about Wyches, however I think with 2 MCs walking around, I should be ok for CC AT at 500 points. Also, even though I'm not too happy with how Warriors work, I'm even less so with Wyches! The blaster is for some versatility, so I can go for vehicles or use the AP2 on anything with a good save.

If your MCs get gibbed, you're pretty much done for. I've never been attracted to the Cronos, but I don't imagine it would be a great unit, with only 2 attacks base at S5.
Warriors easily outclass HWG Wyches in 6th in all tasks except tank-busting. However, if you have future escalation rounds in mind, 5 HWG Wyches in a Venom will still be competitively useful, while 5 Warriors will still be good but much less so for higher pts levels.
I wouldn't drop a Wrack for any special weapon (except LG... that thing's sweet, but not in 500 pts!). They're good enough as-is.

Is Kharn a Commissar that kills enemies or are Commissars Kharn wannabe's who don't have the balls to kill enemies?

The Cronos isn't a combat unit, it's got nasty template shooting abilities. Also it's a force multiplier!

I didn't make it very clear, we can change our lists when the points limit changes, so I don't need to carry on with small Warrior squads.

For 500pts I would probably do something my opponent wouldnt expect like:

HQ

Haemie

Troops

4 wracks

5 wracks

Heavy support

Talos- chain-flails, TL-HL

Talos- chain-flails, TL-HL

Talos- chain-flails, TL-HL

Just camp the guys in the back and have the talos's destroy everything

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Or subbing in a cronos for one of the talos's might work even better

Talos aren't that tough, but three of them in 500 pts look promising. They may be too slow though, and prone to being tarpitted.
Altayre: I thought your original post said "the list has to stay the same once used". I'm confused.
The Cronos's template is S3 IIRC, so I don't see that being that nasty. And as a force multiplier, I don't think it does anything beside possibly give the Talos FnP, and it's meh after that.

Ya mobility might be a problem with your talos's depending on the size of the board, i dont think you'll have a problem with tarpitting at 500pts, but ive never really had a problem with my talos's getting tarpitted, they either kill or get killed lol, hopefully the first

Yeah, what I meant was that I have to use the same 500 point list for all campaign battles I play in that month, then the same 1000, 1500 and so on. So you can change it completely after each month when the limit increases but until then you are stuck with that list. I intend to play a lot in each part so need a good all comer list each time!

And the Cronos has been invaluable at getting the Talos fnp and furious charge to enable him to instant death anything t4. Also, when they get up close the Cronos does some wonderful things to hordes! He's a decent all-rounder really.

I do love the 3 MC list though...

In fact here's the other list I was considering:
Heamy, LG 60
5 Warriors, blaster 60
5 Warriors, blaster 60
Talos, CF 110
Talos, CF 110
Cronos, SV 100

Those Warriors aren't going anywhere. In such a list, the poor footslogging mandatory troop choices are basically going to spend an entire game sitting on the sidelines and weathering massive enemy anti-infantry fire. Wracks are better at that role IMO due to T4. I would replace the Warriors with 2 units of 5 Wracks each, and spend the final 20 points on either TL HB on the Talos' or liquifier guns for each unit of Wracks.
