I have been called out by my nearly 6 year old son, he said "The Grey Knights don't care if you got a new book Dad, they will crush your bad guys easy."

That got me thinking how we have not seen any good reports of Chaos Marines having any success so far and the idea for a battle was born. We will be playing a random book mission and the lists will be as follows:

The question to the Dakka crew is who will win this epic showdown? The padawan or the master? The first grader or the old guy? Mat Ward or Phil Kelly?

Battle will be played Wednesday after school. We will do pictures and as many details as we can. Stay tuned!

If the battle runs long and Mom comes home she will immediately "assist" the Chaos side with "advice" since it's "her" army.

I gotta vote for the blood god, just because I despise pansy knights.

But pansy knights generaled by a 6 year old? His luck is insane sometimes and I have no answer for the Flyers, but I will truly be trying to crush him... a childs tears can only make my Chaos army stronger right?

12 infantry models @ 2000pts would seem like a recipe for auto-loss even if it wasn't generalled by a 6yr old.

True, but being able to strike where you want and when you want with the support of anti-tank and psychic powers is pretty good... depending on the mission. The trick is what to deploy and what to reserve, the Draigo list was traditionally the full reserve army but now he has to put something down but I doubt that Chaos can get to whatever he puts down anyway turn 1. It should be fun!

Lemme save the CSM side 20 points and point out that an Aura of Dark Glory is useless on a DP that has a 5++ naturally. And I dont think soul blaze is worth even 5 points on the defiler.

Also the DP is going to get shot up without wings. You could take a juggernaut lord with similar equipment for 45 pts less and he can hide with the bikes.

If you want to stick with the prince I'd go for the Black Mace. With WS 4 the prince is hit on a 5+ if you take the axe you lose that benefit. You still get the the AP 2 because of the smash USR. You dont ID T4 anymore but you still get the 2+ to wound and you get to remove even EW models at T4 on a 5+ test. You also get have a chance to would all enemies within 3" even while in a challenge.

I have a more important question - how did you ever get your 6 year old (i'm presuming probably a 5 year old at the time of his learning) to sit still and focus long enough to learn the rules of such a complex game?

My (admittedly cloned) 4 year old son loves the models i play with, and even learns the names of some of the more impressive ones, but I wouldn't even imagine trying to get him to grasp the actual rules of the game until he were 9 or 10 years old.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Awesome thanks for the extra 20 points, will change the list shortly. I need all the edge I can get. Dropped the useless Aura and added Veterans to the Khorne CSM squad bringing it up to 2000 exactly.

LOL, he is mainly into throwing the dice and telling me what he would like his guys to do. In our smaller games he has made some tactical decisions that made me say "Ok..." and then his dice heat up and make him look like a seasoned veteran. I am very blessed to have a kid that is into the deeper parts of the rules, he plays advanced board games with us and can pretty much whoop my butt in anything on the Wii. He's a scary good gamer and still rocks the 1st grade curriculum. His little brother on the other hand... he's a little rascal and would much rather rough house and play music than do anything related to games at all.

Well, epic fail on the pictures. They are all blurry because of my camera phone so I am not even going to upload them unfortunately but here is a run down of the battle since people voted you deserve the results!

I need to leave the battle reports to the pros (like Ailaros and JY2) but this one was one of the most fun games I have played ever.

First Turn:
The Chaos bikers boosted up the left flank toward the 3 models that were on the board for GK going for the quick win before the reinforcements arrive next turn. The Defiler lobs a shell onto the GK Dreads and blows an arm off each of them. The rest of the Chaos army moves forward to the center line. In response the GK Dreads fire their remaining arms at the oncoming bikers to no effect while Draigo casts Communion to increase the chances of his backup coming in.

Second Turn:
The bikers pop one of the dreads with melta guns, the rest of the army runs forward and pops smoke while one of the Rhinos manages to immobilize itself on the center terrain piece. During the GK turn, with the help of Communion, both Stormravens come in putting a wound on the Daemon Prince on one flank and blowing up the still mobile rhino on the other. Draigo charges and smashes the biker champion after burning 3 others to death with Sanctified Flames.

Third Turn:
Chaos prepares for the worst and hopes for some Snap Shot luck. The large squads bubble wrap the Defiler and Prince. All the snap shots versus the Stormravens either miss or are jinked. Draigo kills the last bikers and moves under the wings of his SR. During the GK turn all the Paladins jump out, Draigo joining his squad and the Librarian already in his. The Prince gets wounded more while the Defiler gets popped by the other Stormraven. Between shooting and charging the Khorne CSM squad is wiped out down to just Kharn duelling with Draigo which goes 1-1 keeping them locked. On the other flank the Psycannons and follow up charge from the Librarians squad wipe out the dismounted Zerks.

Fourth Turn:
The Khorne Prince gets his counter charge and splatters 3 Paladins with the Axe of Blind Fury. Plasma shooting kills one Paladin from the Libbies squad. In the GK turn Draigo loses his head to the Axe (after taking Kharns head off in the Chaos turn) while the Libbies squad and both Ravens pour fire into the last CSM squad killing about half of them but they hold with the Vengeance Icon held high.

Fifth Turn:
The warding staff Apothecary steps over the body of Draigo and holds the Prince in check with his 2++ for both rounds of combat. Making a total of 15 2++ saves to avoid death. The Librarian and squad just get back in their Raven and fly over for Linebreaker while peppering the last squad with shots. The game ends with the GK having lost a Dread, Draigo, and a handful of Paladins from each squad. Chaos was gutted losing everything except the Prince and some CSM stragglers that were too dumb to run.

Final Score:
Chaos 4 (First Blood, Slay the Warlord, and 2 kill points)
Grey Knights 8 (Linebreakers, Slay the Warlord, and 6 kill points)

So, there you have it. No answer for the flyers and no lucky snap shots meant I was just a sitting duck waiting to be charged by nasty squads of Paladins. Even with a counter charge by my Prince and Zerks I could not break the squads and during the one turn that the SR's were hovering I was either tied up or out of range. Had I been beaten like this by anyone else I'd be upset... but my kid had fun beating down Chaos with the epic hero GK list and I learned quite a bit about how new Chaos works. With so many hard to kill units I knew I was screwed when we rolled up Purge. Having to Challenge sucks and requires some adjusting to, having no anti-psyker sucks too. Looking forward to busting out the Nurgle themed list next vs. the Red Hunters. Sorry the pictures got borked, thanks for reading.

Great game. The time to shoot down his ravens is when he goes in Hovering mode to drop off his paladins. It's easy to under-estimate an army with just 12 infantry models, but Draigowing is still a very good army. Good luck in your next battle.

And thanks for the shout-out.

You bet JY2, always love to see your reports. I agree on the SR's, the one turn they were hovering I was tied up in combat with most of the guns that could make a difference. I learned something about timing and spacing with the GK watching how my kid moved them... Draigo jumping into the unit as it came out of the Raven and then assaulting basically kept me from having any clean shots or getting any good charges. Our Heldrake is assembled now so the SR's will not be quite so safe next game (and the Oblits are coming out too!).

I do like VotLW though, had I not been against FNP Paladins it would have made a huge difference with the Zerks in combat and the Prince is just scary!

EDIT: We also plan to use our Zombicide minis for 4x20 Plague Zombie... that should give the Imperials something to chew on!

This is epic. I've slowly been introducing my three year old to my models, letting him play with the IG tanks, since they're fairly solid and square. He knows to avoid the dinosaurs (since they're pointy) and likes the men in spacesuits. All the models have either flashlights or some sort of construction tool at this point though. I'm very happy to see I won't have to wait another 6 or 7 years to play. Growing a person to play nerd games with you is one of the reasons I told my wife we needed a kid.

Although it does concern me that a grown man with plenty of gaming experience looses to a 6 year old. That could easily be me and I like the idea of being better than my offspring at things for at least another 10 years. If he regularly beats me, I hope I hope I can take it as gracefully as you and not punish him until he lets poor old Dad win one...

Prepare yourselves for the onslaught men. The enemy is waiting, but your Officers are courageous and your bayonettes sharp! LOL thanks for the comment! Playing with my son always shows me how much of the game is list building, match ups, missions, and luck. Without fail the person having the most fun is the winner (even if they don't actually win the game) so we just go for awesome moments when we play. I almost passed out laughing when the Apothecary Paladin with Warding Staff held up the Khorne Prince with Axe of Blind Fury for all those attacks... and my kid looks me right in the eye and says "NONE SHALL PASS!" in true Gandalf at the bridge in Moria form.

It will probably be a couple of weeks before the next battle but I will have the resident photographer (wifey) take the pictures so we have more to look at. Trying to decide on the Chaos list to challenge the Knights of Draigo list, leaning toward a Slaanesh theme with allied Daemons... but Typhus and a horde of Zombies are still a possibility.
