- 4 psycannons
- 4 hammers
- 1 MC hammer
- Banner
- 4 swords

2 Paladins
- 2 MC Hammers

2 Paladins
- MC Hammers

Storm Rave
- t/l MM t/l Assault cannons
- hurricane bolters

- H incinerator

Dread Knight
- teleporter
- H incinerator

NECRONS (i may mess up some of this but i hope you understand)

Nemesor
Oberon

Over lord
- Warscythe
- CC Barge
- mind shackle scarabs and res orb

2 x royal courts (one has 3 one has 4 guys)
- 2x flamer that wounds on LD (go with death marks)
- 2 4 shot S5 guns
- 2 lances (maybe 3)

7 Immortals
- tessla
6 Immortals
- tesla
8 Warriors

5 death marks

5 wraiths
- 2 whip coils

1 night scythe (with death marks)

2 doom scythes

somewhere there are two pieces of war-gear that can make it night fight

+++++++++++++++++

MISSION: 1 OBJECTIVE EACH

DEPLOYMENT: DIAGONAL

INITIATIVE: NECRONS

+++++++++++++++++

As the Grey Knight player, and having played against Lukes Necrons, I know how nasty the death marks and doom scythes can be. At the same time, a mission with one objective each can be rather tough for both sides. So it was tough for me to decide what the best strategy to take was.

In then end, i decided to play conservatively, by placing my death star around my objective flanked by the dread knights. The two small paladin squads would stay in reserve for as long as possible and i would use my storm raven to take out his flyers.

psychic powers for coteas are - roll 3 dice for reserves and pick one; re-roll to hits

Warlord trait is: Move through cover and stealth for all units in ruins (not bad)

For the Necrons, their warlord trait had to do with night fight i believe

Grey Knights basically near their objective, i spread out 2" for everybody

TURN 1 - NECRONS

Grey Knights do not attempt to steal the initiative

First turn is night fight (based on mission)

Wraiths and command barge move forward; Grey Knight army is out of range to be shot at.

GREY KNIGHTS TURN 1

So, knowing that the game would likely come down to first blood, i decided not to run head long into most of his army. Instead, i basically sat their and waited for his flyers to come in. I expected that I would be able to weather the alpha strike okay...

NECRONS TURN 2

All three flyers come in.

moves up disembarks the death marks (marking my large paladin squad)

He also Teleports Oberon onto my objective, which is behind my palandins (rather risky) but gets a "hit"

he uses the STR 8 AP 1 flamer (based on Ld) against my paladins, wounding on 2's and also fires both doom bolts (or whatever) and the death scythe at the paladins. His immortals and lords with a weapon that has 4 str 5 shots unloads as well

End result...3 dead paladins; 1 or 2 with 1 wound...

My turn 1 - so exciting. no movement

3 Necron fliers and death marks unloaded

one more dead paladin (next to Draigo)

Grey Knights Turn 2

So, now is where the fun begins...

I use The psychic power to roll 3 dice for reserves and intentionally keep one unit of paladins in reserve (would have kept both but..)

Storm Raven comes on; terminators teleport into some ruins to stay out of the "castle's" firing range

Draigo detached from the unit and heads up towards the death marks. The death star reshffles. Coteaz casts "re-roll to hit on them"

Basically only thing that happens is the storm raven takes out a death scythe in shooting

Automatically Appended Next Post:
One more point - i moved the two dread knights back towards my objective, both used their incinerators on the immortal squad killing a couple.

SORRY - NO PICKS OF TURN 3

NECRONS TURN 3

the two remaining Necron flyers take off and leave the field. Oberon teleports back over to his objective. The wraiths move forward a little.

He shot at the storm raven and I jinked, but nothing happenned.

Another dead royal court from Draigo - the death marks run.

GREY KNIGHTS TURN 3

- Storm Raven fliess off the board. one dread knight moves into position and shoots the death marks killing 4. the other remains where it is... i finish off the death mark with other shooting. over not much.

Draigo rejoined the death star

NECRON TURN 4

Flyers come back - shoots at me but nothing much happens - draigo takes the brunt of the death scythe shots

Wraiths move closer

GREY KNIGHT TURN 4

Storm Raven comes in - takes down the other doom scythe

My two dread knights assault the wraiths killing 4, no wounds back

Necron turn 5

Overlord on CC barge charges the DK. DK passes mindshackl scarabs. the wraith dies

Oberon teleports near the GK objective again

The night scythe and immortals with oberon shoot at paladins...nothing

Sorry no picks of any of this

GREY KNIGHTS TURN 5

two dread knights teleport to the Necron Objective and flame the immortals
unfortunately they fail their leadership check on an 11 and ran off the table edge

The Storm raven goes into hover mode and shoots the hell out of the immortals

two mind strikes hit 15 guys, plus bolters, melt, assault cannon, etc. ...kill 6, one gets back up. also put one or two wounds on Oberon.

Game went to turn six

NECRON Turn 6

The immortal squad with oberon moved and shot at the paladins, attempted to assault but failed

The Lord and CC barge blew up the hovering storm raven

The other warrior squad and Overlord shot at the dreadknight, taking off 2 wounds (1 wound left)

That was it...

GK TURN SIX

Draigo moved to assault the CCB - i could not have him attempting to contest my objective

Coteaz dissengaged and moved to engage the immortals - i was thinking the shooting from paladins should be able to take out the Lord with the warscythe and coteaz could tie them up a turn - or at least just stand in their way.

Paladins pulled back closer to my objective

the two dreadknights switched places, and the one with no wounds assaulted the warriors - oberon was telported back and challenged me.

he died...

leadership roll .... and he got a 10!!!!! he needed a 9. The dreadknight swept and wiped out the unit.

Game ends.

VICTORY TO GREY KNIGHTS

GK
both objectives: 6
first blood: 1
slay the warlord: 1
line breaker: 1

Necrons
Line breaker:1

GK: 9 Necrons: 1

In the end, I think i got lucky in the fact that two units ran off the board, then again, he should not have kept them right on the board edge. I am continuing to gain more and more respect for the Dreadknights. They really were key in this game, especailly with that late game shunt

BTW - i may have forgotten to mention but with Grand Strategy, both Dread Knights were scoring.

Hope you all enjoy - i think this should have gone in battle reports...sorry about that.

That necron list is very 5th edition-ist. Crons tend to have a tough time against draigowing. I think with your experience you should win this series.

GAME 2 IS COMPLETE

I did not necessarily write up a battle report as I got a bit huffy about a "questionable" exploitation of the rules

We rolled for setup and mission, ended up being the same as game one. Even the deployment. I won initiative so had necrons go first, thinking i could weather the turn 2 attacks, come in and blow up a flier for first blood

So, on turn 2 all of the necron fyers come in...he moves 18", then in the shooting phase he goes flat out off the board... i.e., he never really came on the board his turn.

My turn 2, one of my 2 man terminators came in...the scattered a bit towards the middle of the board. His turn 3, all three flyers come in, and he concentrates on the two terminators killing them...

okay, 1 hour debate ensues, we finally just go forward saying that he was able to EFFECTIVELY NOT bring his flyers on when they were supposed to come in from reserve

Some highlights, i killed his warlord, but he made the 5+ to get back up.. :( I killed a huge immortal squad except 1 guy, who got in my deployment zone and just kept going to ground for 2+ cover.

I had two terminators, my storm raven, and a dread knight close to his objective but not within 3" and engaged..

Game ends

he has 2 fliers left, 1 squad of immortals, his two overlords, and 2 immortals in the terrain near my objective and a few wraiths.

I lost 1 dreadknight and 2 pladains..

I lose the game 2:1 Line Breaker + First blood to Line Breaker

I konw there is a lot of discussion regarding the flyers leaving the table on the turn they come in, but really i think the intent of the rule is for them not to be able to do that. It gives too much control to the owning player and if that was how it was supposed to be i think reserves would state "the unit MAY come in ..."

Anyway, the TO said they can do it so i had to live with it. I think if i had known that could be done that way i would have deployed more agressively...

So there will be a game 3.

Nice write-up! It's very cool to see people playing WH40K in other countries, it really makes me feel like I'm a part of a global community.

Sorry that Yang made that call. I personally think it's a little unfair and against the spirit of the game...a complete dick move and you had no warning prior. TFG behaviour for sure.

At least next time you will be ready for it and we can call on Yang to be clearer and more fair with his rulings in future. Sometimes I get the feeling he makes these rules calls on purpose just to penalize our group. *Sigh*

Oh and another fun fact I picked up from Sun today...Yang will soon start charging for table usage (Turn6 does it now apparently). 30 yuan a time. Not impressed.

But back on topic I don't think Ian will have any more surprises for you so I'm gonna call it a win in your favour. Next time an aggressive approach should get you a win. He literally has nothing that can knock out your Deathstar unless you make a big mistake.
