I just realized I had not seen a thread here about this particularly Post Apoc themed Miniatures Kickstarter.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1176616619/hell-on-earth-miniature-mega-release
Their pricing is a bit odd, but in general for $25 you get 4 "Core" miniatures.
Then for each $6 you pledge above that you get your pick of those miniatures that get unlocked as goals are reached.
There is now an option to get 10 picks for about a $5 saving (you get the core 4 and 10 picks, normally $85, now for $80) that also gets you any bonus "freebies" like if they reach $15K you will get a 3-pack of wormlings.
They got a lot of goals to reach to unlock all the various miniatures (my personal hope is it break $50K as that's where the reckoners are (mutant priests).
So if you are a fan of PA minis check them out.

I saw this campaign when it first popped up on Kickstarter, as someone who loves the Post-Apoc genre i was ready to pledge until i noticed the ridiculous ROW shipping costs included in the low pledge levels. I can fully understand any order that includes the book having high shipping, but $25 postage at the $25 pledge level for only four models is an absolute joke. The 'Gang Leader' pledge level seems to be the money spot of this campaign, it comes with enough models that i don't feel violated by the $25 ROW postage and is also eligible for the bonus goal models.
Im somewhat disappointed they've chosen to create a model of the stereotypical 'wrench girl' that has been featured in a few other KS campaigns, it just seems overdone and a waste of a good sculpt at this point.
Also does anyone know if these HOE miniatures are going to be completely new sculpts, or will some of them just be modifications of models from Reapers existing range? Only asking because i noticed that the concept art for the 'waster 2' is almost a direct copy of the Reaper model 'Rex' with a few minor changes.

They've shown off 2 models in the updates section already, the 'Librarian' and the 'Templar'.
(Spoiler tag as the pictures are a tad large.)

I would want to be able to trade Stone and Hellstromme for minis that aren't Stone and Hellstromme. The original Deadlands gave me a fairly healthy hatred of Stone and his special snowflake "The designer's metaplot is more important than the GM's campaign" status in all the rulebooks. Hellstromme less so, but The Unity is still probably one of the worst adventure modules ever written.

If it is it is lacking. considering that Reaper already has the guys already out.
And along with that, whats with the bolt pistols? they look like the same ones the Judge Dredd guys are carrying around.

Hell on Earth is a "descendant" of Deadlands, same world, but now Post Apocalyptic.
The miniatures are all "new" for that setting and not currently in production, though they are using Reaper to make the miniatures. I put "new" in quotes only because some could be really close re-sculpts/hand-swaps to existing models (Waster 2 is the one everyone seems to notice), but a majority appear to be new.
Yeah, the Bolt Pistols I guess are now standard in the weird wastes.

Looking at the sillouhettes, it seems the unlocks go Junkers, Psykers, Toxic Shamans, Doombringers, Law Dogs, Female Librarian, Male Templar.
Odd that they'd release Toxic Shamans early in the cycle, as I'd consider them far more niche than Doombringers and Law Dogs.
Also, I'm sure in my knowledge that HoE:Reloaded will nerf the hell out of Junkers and reduce them to the Arcane Background(Weird Science) edge. Rather sad since The Junkman Cometh is probably my favorite RPG splatbook ever. Pinnacle has had a hate on for item creator types ever since Lost Colony.

My guess is that one is a non-slang name of a physical body part where as the other can imply racial slur. Note that coonskin seems to go through fine where as the first four letters are bound to get you in trouble in certain areas of America.

The word in question is an offensive reference to Black people, mainly American (but it certainly was used in the UK in the 1950s as well)

Well someone got the generous bug at this Kickstarter.
They dropped the stretch goals by 20%, so now they get unlocked every $4K instead of every $5K. And since they just broke $15K the wormlings are out and they are just a smidge away from the next Scrapper. So all in all someone is making it easier to get in on this.

If they are anything like the Reaper ones, they wil fit well along 40K's 28-32mm scale. Great looking figures, craptastic game.
The models themselves seem really interesting, it is just the little issue of the Deadlands always restarting, when it is already out and in circulation, and having no interest in a "POST Apocalyptic end of the world. To not try to be too much of an ass, the Deadlands setting was fine. It doesn't need THIS yet again.
My biggest beef about Deadlands is that every five minutes theres some other shmoe trying to "Revamp" it.
These figures in thier entirety are going to work great for Rogue Trader/ Inquisition types, though. Might even go well for some Serenity type of setting.
I'll be definatly getting the figures, but not so much the game.

Kind of cool, but those prices are rather steep until you start investing a lot of capital, and at that point, I'm investing a lot in to something I still don't know the quality of (re: rules, etc.)

Well here is the Wiki write up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadlands:_Hell_on_Earth
As for the original Deadlands
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadlands
As to Grot 6's comments, yeah, Deadlands has gone through several iterations and variations.
That is as due to as much as them updating the core rule book ($10) to the newest edition (Deluxe) as anything else. Yeah, they made the mistake of trying to reboot into the d20 system, but went back to their own Savage World system and then last year they update those rules and relaunched Deadlands into that update ruleset (Deluxe). Then a year later they shrunk the hardbacks into softback (for cheaper). Which if I was a betting man they will do with HoE (so 2014).
As for variations
Now they have Hell on Earth
And they will be coming out with Noir.
Both of those set in the same "world" but different times (deadlands the old west, noir in the 1940-50s, HoE - Post apoc).
If you are curious about the rules, the core rule book is available for $10US, then if you like that you can check out the setting books that leverage that book.
The pinnacle website also has a bunch of free adventures, the one that includes the most rules is their free adventure The Wild Hunt.

I think the d20 iteration was most frustrating, as it replaced everything good about Deadlands(The skill based system, the wounds, the flavorful magic systems) with crud from D&D. On top of that, every release afterwards had to have two different stat blocks and rules for everything.
Mostly I'm ticked about Lost Colony going from a full fledged third release to a sourcebook for Hell on Earth and HoE d20 that somehow forgot to include all but the barest inklings of setting information.

New green of the large robot, and the campaign is only $543 away from unlocking the 1st syker model as well as the bonus Post- Apoc melee weapon sprue.

I wouldn't so much call it generosity as much as they likely realized that the campaign was stalling with the 5k goals, i think it was a smart choice lowering the goals to 4k considering that most of the miniature based pledge levels all rely on the models unlocked from stretch goals. And if they failed to at least unlock 10 of them they could have seen a decrease in the current number of higher pledgers.
Im hoping Reaper will give this campaign a shout out via an update on their KS campaign near the end, it would be weird if they didn't seeing as Reaper are the ones who are actually producing the models for this range.

My favourite bit of nonsense there was Hellstromme sending the PC's off on the spaceship that he designed, but neglects to mention that one of them will need to sacrifice themselves to power it. But that was the late 90's for you--a lot of RPG's seemed to go through a vogue for big important metaplots involving Big Secrets of the setting that would be hinted at and built up over several books, to encourage people to collect them all to try and figure out the mystery. These plots would usually be almost entirely in the hands of NPC's (adventures were typically "go here and watch an NPC do something significant"), and the revelations were 50% easily seen coming, and 50% weird curveballs that would contradict existing plots & characters ("I thought I was a Teutonic Knight, apparently I'm one of the Ghostbusters").
And heck, Deadlands was a long way from the worst--anyone else remember 7th Sea and the whole insect aliens nonsense? Or classic Vampire and Samuel bloody Haight?

It's the future of the Deadlands setting. Post WWIII, the Reckoners themselves show up as the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse and stomp everything. In taking physical form, they become a bit more vulnerable, though...
So it's got a lot of Deadlands 'stuff' but twisted by a few hundred years of weirdness.
No Blessed, but there's Paladin-style Templar and Rad Priests.
No Hucksters* but Sykers and such.
Undead are still around, but many were converted to Cyborgs that helped minimize the whole "And the undead guy's personal demon comesm out to play every now and then with horrible results"
Librarians (like one of the models shown) started the old version of the game as just well-meaning people seeking to preserve old knowledge. Then they got a bookt hat gave them special book powers.
Mad Scientists caused the war (or at least the bombs that messed everything up...) and have been superseded by Junkers that convince Tech Spirits to help them and make gadgets that kind of resemble 40k Ork tech in a way. Automatically Appended Next Post: OrlandotheTechnicoloured wrote:

Well, yeah. That was one thing a lot of people in the late 90s didn't seem to understand about metaplots ands et characters. They were there for players and GMs to use or ignore as they wished, They didn't have to be used at all.

Certainly true, but it at the least resulted in a lot of wasted space in books if you didn't care about the metaplot or NPC soap opera--to get back to Hell on Earth, you bought Unity so your group could run an adventure where their characters took on the big bad guys of the setting, not sit around watching NPC's take on the big bads. Not to mention how it was generally a bad example to set for GM's (especially new ones still trying to figure out how to create adventures), to promote the view that any big changes to the setting were strictly in the hands of NPC's, and players were only fit to clean up after them and observe their magnificence.
Anyway, I'm certainly not meaning to hate on Hell on Earth here; I loved the setting (especially now the metaplot is "finished") and I'll be sure to check out the SW version when it arrives. I'll wait before backing the miniatures, to see more of what they'll look like.

I will agree that Unity was not the best adventure. :( I think Pinnacle was in it's low ebb of financial crunch, employee burn-out, etc. when it came out. Unity and the Lost Colony stuff were both not their best work. I'm glad they're working on Savage Worlds versions of these settings, as they had some neat ideas. I was very resistant to the SW versions at first. I didn't like the simplified system and of course seeing the utility of my stacks of Deadlands books dwindle. Nowadays, if I was looking for an RPG to run I'd certainly consider running the SW version of Deadlands (or HoE). It's extremely trimmed down and fast to run, which works for me now. They have (to my understanding) fixed some early issues where the system wasn't as 'flavorful' by making hucksters more interesting, but at the same time cleaned up the mess that all the different potential Arcane Backgrounds could bring. (In HoE, you could conceivably have over a dozen mechanically-diverse Arcane Backgrounds running around, especially in a post-Unity environment where time travel was a difficult but possible proposition: 'native' Sykers, Cyborgs, Librarians, Junkers, Tempalrs. Time-traveling Hucksters, Martial Artists, Shamans, Blessed, Blood Mages, and plain Harrowed. And from Lost Colony, the nanotech guys and the Anouk version of undead. And whatever I've forgotten! Some were pretty risky... A lot of the Weird West would have trouble if time-traveling, as their power sources were suddenly unreliable...
Savage Worlds narrows this down to a bunch of variants of a couple core mechanics, which probably makes more sense. It's a basic 'power point' system, with a relatively simple special rule for each background to differentiate it.
Also the core system is just a lot quicker. Easy to handle mooks and focus on the fun parts, not record keeping. I'd definitely bring up SW Deadlands as an option if I was about to run a game these days. (Though right now, my RPG I'd like to run if I had the time/group is Eclipse Phase)

If you were waiting to see if more minis came "unlocked" the new (and albeit different) method of unlocking has taken the KS from 6 miniatures to 10 in just one day (check the posts to see what they are doing different to get more minis unlocked). I would not be surprised to see if they hit more of them in last 7 days of the KS.
And example of an unlock is if they get 234 Backers that will unlock whatever is next in the list. Some have been trivia questions others are speed comments.

Very smart move by the KS creator unlocking 6 of the stretch goal models early, i was dreading to see what would happen if the campaign failed to meet the old minimum of $ 40k for 10 of the models to be unlocked.
They've posted some (fairly rough.) concept art of the model that will be created from the 'design your own character' pledge level that somebody has chosen, she is available as a regular model in any of the pledge levels that allow you to pick from the current stretch goal miniatures.
They have also added a few more bonus goals to the campaign. (Which at this point might as well just be called stretch goals....)
First up is the Doombringer at $35k.
And at $50k is a 3 pack of mutants.
As much as i would absolutely love to see the mutants unlocked, i strongly doubt that the campaign will be able to amass the necessary $22k with only 3 days left.
