Hey all, I'm starting an IG army and wanted some opinions on the list I just made.
HQ
Company Command Squad-Master of Ordnance + Veteran Weapons Team with Lascannon=100 pts
Troops
Platoon Command Squad=30 pts
Infantry Squad 1-Melta Gun=60 pts
Infantry Squad 2-Melta Gun=60 pts
Infantry Squad 3-Melta Gun=60 pts
Infantry Squad 4-Melta Gun=60 pts
Heavy Weapons Squad 1-Autocannons on all=75 pts
Heavy Weapons Squad 2-Autocannons on all=75 pts
Veteran Squad 1-Veteran Weapons Team with Autocannon + 3 Plasma Guns=125 pts
Veteran Squad 2-Veteran Weapons Team with Autocannon + 3 Plasma Guns=125 pts
6 Chimeras-330 pts
Fast Attack
Vendetta Gunship=130 pts
Heavy Support
Leman Russ Executioner-Plasma Cannon Sponsons-230 pts
Leman Russ Battle Tank 1-150 pts
Leman Russ Battle Tank 2-150 pts
Medusa Ordnance Battery-Bastion Breacher Shells=140 pts
Aegis Defense Line-Quad Gun=100 pts
Total-2000 pts
Each Veterans Squad and Infantry Squad will be in a Chimera. The Platoon Command Squad will be in the Vendetta. The CCS will be way in the back, since I have long range with the Master of Ordnance and Lascannon. The Leman Russes I have should pretty easily wipe infantry and lightly armored vehicles. The Vendetta and Medusa will pretty easily crush even Land Raider armor, with the high Strength/low AP of their weapons. I put Meltas in each Infantry squad to enable them to deal with enemy armor. The HWTs will be sitting on objectives and using their ACs to take out any infantry and light vehicles. My idea is that they'll be getting a good amount of shots in while the enemy deals with higher priority targets.
Thoughts?

Standard chimera spam list though i would drop the inf squads and get more Vets.... MoO is alright though ive only killed a spacemarine biker and half a squad of hormaguants with him in 7 games. Also How are you planning to get those HWT to those objectives?

I may have missed something when reading the Codex but aren't Heavy Weapon Teams allowed to move?
If not, then there's no problem with placing an objective on my side of the table behinds the Aegis Defense Line and camping the teams beside it. Nice 4+ save that way.
I have to take at least 2 Infantry Squads. You suggest taking only the 2 and then putting in another squad of Veterans fully upgraded with Plasma Guns? I dunno, I liked having so many scoring units, myself.

Vets are troops. They should be scoring too. and HWTs can move, just as a footslogger can

OK cool. As I was saying, the HWTs should be able to sit on objectives. I don't think they'll draw as much fire as the Chimeras moving up the field will, so that's why I'd consider them optimal for the task.
I know that Veterans are Troops, as well. If I took out 2 Chimeras and 2 Infantry squads, and put in another fully loaded Veteran squad with Chimera, I'd be at 1950. Suggestions on if this is a good idea? What would be a good way to spend the extra 50 points if I did?

Inf squads are bad in 6th ed... why? because MSU as squishy as guardsmen are an easy way to give your opponent first blood which is 1 VP to increase survivability CHimeras are great but the point of Inf squads is to be low points and expendable. the way you are running them they are costing 115 pts which could be used on special weapons and things that can do more damage. This is why more Guard players take vets as you can put 3 special weapons in them and put them in a chimera for 170pts max. That extra 55 points you are spending them gives them either 3 rapidfire plasma guns or 3 melta guns. Most armies cannot do that as cheaply as ig can. Also HWT are terrible for holding objectives up the board as they are only Ld 7 and more often then not they will be falling back as soon as they take casualties

Alright, I've cleared away some of the extras.
HQ
Company Command Squad-Master of Ordnance + Veteran Weapons Team with Lascannon=100 pts
Troops
Platoon Command Squad=30 pts
Infantry Squad 1-Melta Gun=60 pts
Infantry Squad 2-Melta Gun=60 pts
Heavy Weapons Squad 1-Autocannons on all=75 pts
Heavy Weapons Squad 2-Autocannons on all=75 pts
Veteran Squad 1- 3 Plasma Guns=115 pts
Veteran Squad 2-3 Plasma Guns=115 pts
Veteran Squad 3-3 Plasma Guns=115 pts
5 Chimeras-275 pts
Fast Attack
Vendetta Gunship=130 pts
Heavy Support
Leman Russ Executioner=190 pts
Leman Russ Battle Tank 1=150 pts
Leman Russ Battle Tank 2=150 pts
Medusa Ordnance Battery-Bastion Breacher Shells=140 pts
Aegis Defense Line-Quad Gun=100 pts
This brings me to 1880. I was aiming for this list to be 2000 pts. Suggestions on what I can spend 120 pts on? Any other units I should take? Maybe just deck my squads out with better gear?

OK, I did some modifying and here's the list now.
HQ
Company Command Squad-Master of Ordnance + Veteran Weapons Team with Lascannon=100 pts
Troops
Platoon Command Squad-3 Plasma Guns=75 pts
Infantry Squad 1-Melta Gun=60 pts
Infantry Squad 2-Melta Gun=60 pts
Heavy Weapons Squad 1-Autocannons on all=75 pts
Heavy Weapons Squad 2-Autocannons on all=75 pts
Veteran Squad 1- 3 Plasma Guns=115 pts
Veteran Squad 2-3 Plasma Guns=115 pts
Veteran Squad 3-3 Plasma Guns=115 pts
5 Chimeras-275 pts
Fast Attack
Vendetta Gunship=130 pts
Heavy Support
Leman Russ Executioner=190 pts
Leman Russ Battle Tank 1=150 pts
Leman Russ Battle Tank 2=150 pts
Medusa Ordnance Battery-Bastion Breacher Shells=140 pts
Hydra Flak Tank Battery=75 pts
Aegis Defense Line-Quad Gun=100 pts
Total-2000 pts
I added in 3 Plasma Guns on the Platoon Command Squad and also put in a Hydra Flak Tank Battery. Should give me some extra fire power. The Hydra can sit behind the Aegis Defense Line for better cover.

HWS tend to attract a lot of firepower and they are very fragile. Long ranged S6 or S7 shots are far better off shooting at a HWS than an AV12 Chimera. It's also 45 points cheaper to remove the HWS and give 3 infantry squads or 3 veteran squads an AC. 60 infantry squads with an AC on foot is the new black, and they mix very well with mechanized infantry in Chimera.
The list is a little heavy on the heavy support, but that might just be your playstyle.
The hydra as we knew it is pretty much dead, I would just go with a 2nd ventetta.
The main thing I would recommend is building up to 1250 or 1500 and playing at that level for a month or so before expanding out to 2k. There are a lot of different ways to make an IG army work, and you're really not going to know what's going to work best for your playstyle until you do some games as IG.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Some solid advice. I did more modifying. Didn't realize that I could basically get the same use from the HWTs and yet save points by merging them into squads, that's a good idea.
Its true, the list is heavy on HS, but being able to throw around all that high strength/low AP blast damage will make my opponents run for cover.

I would keep your PCS cheap as plasmas are pricy and should really only be used by the vets in my opinion. I would give them 4 flamers. Stick them in a vendetta and grav chute them for a late game objective steal or contest. If you plan to blob your IS I would keep a standard in your CCS to keep them from running too often. With orders you can give each IS a plasma and autocannon to tackle MC and vehicles and hold your home objective all the same. In KP games you will want them blobbed to avoid giving an easy KP. Just a thought. Marbo is also a wicked piece of ace!

What do you mean, blob them? There's 2 Infantry Squads and each will be in a Chimera. Doesn't seem like blobbing would be very effective.
Though I somewhat agree with the idea of keeping the PCS cheap, there's only 2 Plasmas in there. Flamers are a nice choice, though.
