Hey dudes, after playing in a 3,000 point against a friends Ogres, which lead to a solid win formy Knights (Trebuchets are awesome ), we got into discussing on how fantasy has taken a back seat for the most part, as we where the only fantasy game out of 10x tables, which was to be expected as 40k is all the rage with the new Chaos book. Since its been awhile since the last fantasy book came out, we began speculating on which book will be done next, although neither of us have heard any news about any new book for fantasy coming out in the near fututre. At the moment, the Armies that think might be the next book are:

* Bretonnia: Now Im not putting this here just because I play the army (part of the reason if Im honest ), but the fact is that they been waiting for a new Army book for the longest out of any other Army, and they could use the help. Although they can still win games and are a somewhat competitive army, they still struggle mightly against big blocks of troops and horde armies thanks to that steadfast rule, making our greatest strength in our army have a harder time doing what they do best, which is breaking units on the charge. Besides that, many units in the Bretonnia book need a point fix, but besides that and the usual changes of more characters and possibly a new unit or two, I feel a rule needs to be made to make our lances a lot more effective on the charge (thinking about the impact hits similar to the Ogres bull charge)/ Although they recently got their fincast update, I dont see them getting a book anytime soon but one can hope.

*Wood Elves: Now these guys, despite having a new army book compared to Bretonnia, are struggling really bad right now, which is why they are considered the "draw" army at the moment. Lacking any rank-and-file infantry except for over-priced eternal guard, they have a hard time fighting almost every opponent, and the 8th edition rules shooting also was affected, which is there greatest strength. Because of this, I can see them getting a new book sooner rather then later, because they, like Bretonnia, need help if they have a chance of becoming more competitive in this edition.

*Dwarfs: Now these guys are still a solid, competitive army from what I have seen but an update isnt out of the question. Dwarfs still could use some updates and point tweaks to there unts to make them a more balanced army, and to be frank, I honestly cant see what can be done to them in this edition, however if someone has an opinion on it be free to add.

*Chaos: Now I added these guys because there was a rumor going around that since Chaos in 40k got a new book, that they might continue on to redo the Chaos in fantasy, which is possible. Although still considered one of the stronger armies, I can see where they would make some point changes and updates to there book to make them more balanced then they are at the moment. Like the Dwarfs, not too sure on what updates they will do or what changes they need for this edition but if anyone can shed some light on that then feel free to do so.

Pretty much these are the 4x armies that I can see either getting a new book or need one the most, however if anyone has any news or heard anything about the next fantasy book or just wants to add who they think needs a new army book the most, then feel free to share. Personally, I will be hoping for Bretonnia to get the next book but I wont be holding my breath as Im pretty sure they arent going to be redone in the near futre.

WoC are getting a White Dwarf update, I think I heard HE are getting updated soon but that was coming from a HE player

WoC are in February, HE are in May, so sayeth the mill of rumors.

Older rumors put DE and Dwarves this year as well, but if 2012 is any indicator of things then the 2 books are all we'll get.

My take is Chaos Daemons January or February, second wave WoC with book in March, then High Elves, then Lizardmen.

Thats what I heard about WOC but HE, really? Bretonnia needs it a lot more then they do at the moment, including the lizardmen.

I agree, even though I am a HE player, but unfortunately it's GW who calls the shots, not us. Still, the rumour mill is made of just that, rumours.

Hastings made a list of upcoming books.
And Wood Elves would need an army book most, but that's not how GW works.

It's about what sells, no one plays brets, wood elves, beastmen for the most part, though a new book would revitalize those armies a bit. So you will see WoC, DE, HE, Lizardmen before anything. I almost cried when they released all the way overpriced bret models last month without a new book.

10k+ High Elf
6.5k Dwarf
7k Original Chaos Dwarf (not the crappy forge world)
6k Bretonnia
7k Wood Elf
6k Dark Elf
8k Tomb Kings
5k Beastmen
5k Lizardmen
7k Daemons of Chaos (roughly 2.5k all but Tzeentch, I find them useless in 8th other than flamers and heralds)
5.5k Empire

If they went by what needs an update the most it would go Wood Elves, Beasmen/Bretonnia, Dwarves then other books. But they don't. They go by what sells (most of the time, and from what I can tell; this is MY PERSONAL opinion). So Warriors, High Elves, Lizardmen sounds about right.

Beastmen are going to suffer from the last Army book of 7th condition so I wouldn't count on them any time soon. Wood Elves, Brits, and Dwarfs could use an update.

Who ever said Dark Elves should read the book they are a solid bunch. Maybe some balancing on their magic items, but beside that Dark Elves are good.

The fact the High Elves are the first army after GW's "Coming of Chaos" wave kinda shocked me. An army that is still top tear doesn't need a new book, and it's not like they're having trouble selling High Elves stuff because of the starter set.

I think it may happen to capitalize on the IoB starter and a serious downgrade/revamp may (read, MAY) be incoming for HE's.

As long as they fix the ridiculous Teclis massacre, I'm fine with it.

Actually, just release a WD update that drastically nerfs Teclis + Book of Hoeth and HE are fine.

The fact that it was the last book to drop in 7th has nothing to do with the fact that it really does not have a Rare section. I WD update would be fine by me and I bet plenty of folk who play Beastmen.

Beastmen won't be updated for a long time. They were the last book to drop in 7th.

That makes them getting any attention very unlikely, at least until all the older books have been updated.

Yes, and no.

Books are written as Studio members champion the army, they've mentioned that in White Dwarf and interviews many times. It's why the book release list looks so scattershot and some books get so many different versions vs other.

Thank you for calling me, Craig, and Hailey 'noone' just because we play brets and/or wood elves.

We ARE someones, in spite of your attempts to dehumanize us.

(Now if you'd said no one is BUYING those armies, you'd probably be correct...)

I maintain that you are no one. As can be evidenced by all of that valuable DE advice that you never offer to anyone on this forum. NO ONE YOU HEAR ME!
