I'm thinking no, as he has all four marks per Mark of Chaos Ascendent, and therefore necessarily has a different mark per the rules on pg. 30 about marked characters joining units.

I'm not sure whether this is what was intended or not, as either way seems to make sense from a fluff perspective.

Long Story short....wait for a FAQ.

The Yay's and the Nay's can't convince each other.

So plan for both possibilities and discuss with your opponent before the game.

Honestly there are two ways to come down on this, either Abaddon can join a squad that has any mark of Chaos, or he cannot join any squad with a mark. One of these two is silly, and no one can agree which one it is.

I don't think either is silly. I can understand both positions. I just don't think the "join any mark" has rules support.

Considering that "Can't trumps may" and there are three "Abaddon can't join Marked squad, because he has different mark" and single "Abaddon also has same mark as marked squad" which would count as may, no Abaddon may not join any marked squad until FAQ changes it.

Fluffwise trivial to support: Abaddon is champion of all Gods and cannot show favoritism to one God.

Exactly he IS THE CHOSEN OF ALL THE GODS! How the hell can't he join any marked unit? He has them all, he CAN join them all.

Except in the rules, where he can't join them. Unless they're not marked.

I am willing to bet that this will be amended in an upcoming FAQ to say that he CAN join any marked unit. But until then RAW seems to be more in support of him being unable to join any marked unit, as wrong as that seems to be.

I do not in anyway support the current interpretation of these rules. But, I am willing to admit that the current rules suggest that Abaddon will not be making any marked buddies for the time being.
