I'm deciding whether steel bases with a magnetic movement tray or magnetic bases with a steel movement tray is better?
So whats your opinions?

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.” |

Mag bases, and these pieces of awesome for movement trays:
http://shogunminiatures.com/index.html
The flanges make them a lot better than just flat steel, and they're so nice and unobtrusive. I can't stand the big lip on some movement trays, prefer them to hug the edges quite closely.
The final stage (which I haven't gotten around to yet) is gluing some magnets to the inside of a case, so you can mag the steel movement trays full of magnet-attached troops to it.
Gives you an instant "take it out of the case and put it on the table" solution without the need to rank crap up, or pick individual figures out of foam slots. So much faster!

You must be a mind reader, Shogun was the place i was thinking of. (And they have both options too) But wouldn't attaching a thin magnetic sheet to the movement tray get the same effect? The minis would stick either way, and your going to apply a magnetic sheet to the movement tray anyway so it stays put in the case.
The main concern being that large models on large bases might not work with the magnetic bases, on his site he mentions they flex once the get to 50mm+.

I have been using pennies which fit perfectly in the 40k 28mm bases and have used magnectic tape for storage, this can also be easily used on movement trays, they hold quite well both plastic and metal minis, pennies give a nice counter weight for the plastic models as well

I use magnets and "rubber steel" sheets made by GF9.

Mantic bases, flipped over, with a 10x.25mm disc magnet in the recess, and sticky-back rubber magnet sheet is what I use, strong enough to hold 40 metal greatswords upside down...

Magnetic bases... and magnetic primer on light basswood.
It's a heck of a lot cheaper than metal.

I went down to my local hardware store with some magnets and tested sheets of metal until I found the cheapest magnetic one I could.
I use it to carry my models on between tables, with a magnet in the base of each model (or several magnets for larger/heavier models).
Never heard of magnetic primer, sounds interesting though.

Hit the local hardware store; it will probably be in the 'oddball' paint section - you know, the area with chalkboard paint and reflective paint for parking lots.
