There's a saying allong the lines of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions".

That's how Tz got the Sons basically. Magnus is a loyal follower of the Big E. The bad guy is Arihman. But then again, who would not be a bad guy after being stuck for 10.000 years in the Eye of Terror on a stupid motive (they wanted to warn Terra of the Heresy...).
