So I am planning on buying my card deck here in a few hours for 2010 which looks to be the most current and I will get set up with Cygnar. Though i understand it might just be prudent to wait to look over these cards I was curious if people had popular consensus of units, mercs and models that are good to use with Cygnar overall. I remember hearing good things about the Warcaster Kane and I heard stryker kills himself too much.... but i dunno I heard longgunners are decent and swordmages too.

I just am very limited in funds and was hoping i might be able to find a hot and cold sorta listing from you guys to make sure I am not having to go through a heavy amount of growing pains is all my wallet just can't afford it

Everything else will depend on your caster and play style...

No, the Squire is a Warcaster Attachment, basically its a small robot solo that follows your warcaster around the battlefield and gives him a series of buffs.

Technically, the Squire is a Solo.

Basically from this point you want to choose a caster. I'd highly suggest checking out the Privateer Press Cygnar forums. They have write ups on all the casters that might give you an idea of how they play and what works with them.

Battlecollege also lists all the units and brief rundowns. But find most of the info there pretty vanilla. Nice reference, but for tactics and stuff you want more.

Or if you are just unsure, buy the $50 battelbox and play that for awhile. In fact, even if you don't, I'd suggest playing battlebox style of games for awhile. Get a caster and a couple of warjacks. Then slowly go up to 15 points, then 25, etc.

I'm in the same boat Big Mek Wurrzog. I'm starting out with Haley as she looked nice and a Sentinel Jack to start off with. Slowly building my army up.

Which Haley?

Most things will work with Captain Haley because she can drop
enemy DEF and SPD. In fact, she works really well with a shooting
based force.

She works well with a defender, letting it take 2 shots with her wotsit spell

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Get the plastic kit with the cyclone and the defender and just magentize it. Then you can play all three jacks (come with ironclad peices, too).

I have not gotten it, but the other heavy plastic kit can make all three, too. I am sure it is magnatizable as well.

But if you like the defender and the cyclone, and you have the money, get a Stormwall. Works well with eHaley, particularly bonded to her.

I've also found Thorn to be good with eHaley as well.

Thanks again for all the posts so far guys!

So I got the battlebox this week, I really enjoyed the game I stamped out 4 matches and already painted up my charger and screwed up a pain job on stryker (it's not bad i just hate it... proud of the charge tho lol). Anyway out of the 4 matches i played last night i won 2 lost 2. That seems acceptable for not really knowing the rules but vlad was painful to fight and dice were reallllllly against me Probably my biggest mistake was placement in a fight against trolls where i didn't realize but the heavy warbeast was able to slide between 2 jacks and hit my caster directly. I should have killed his troll guy but he cast a scroll to save himself with only 2 damage left after my ironclad was smashing his face in... *shrug*

I am the type of player if I learned a lesson in a match then I am coming away from the battle a better player than i was previously and I now see how UBER important movement is cause I could have prevented it entirely if I had just saw through that little hole.

Anyway I've been reviewing battle college as it's been suggested and I am really starting to think I enjoy the trencher gunline + grenadier in my lists in the future as they seem to synergize very well together especially if I use caine as well. thoughts or opinions?

(also on a side note, i had a very pleasant experience... i was annoyed i got my ass handed to me by vlad but *shrug* i breathed it out and just laughed saying "I got a now healthy fear of this caster")

Automatically Appended Next Post:
After some review, it looks like Major Markus Brisbane is pretty well my playstyle.

Seige is top tier. He has a nasty gun and a toolbox spell list that can do alot. I like him becasue he has the answer to alot of the things you are going to run into. The one thing he doesn't do well is support his army with buffs and stuff. And his feat can be devastating.

You will want units with him that are self sufficient or receive buffs from each other or other units.

Go read this thread on the PP forums. It will give you much better info than battlecollege about how units actually play.

If you get Seige I would recomend starting out with a squire, reinholdt (a merc) and a defender. Then you can add in units and solos as you like. I do not believe any of his spells are faction only so you have alot of options between Cygnar and Mercs.

Since they're not listed here yet, Rangers are also a great unit that most Cygnar casters get mileage out of. Being able to run a model 14" across the board and grant a blanket +2 to hit against important models is huge. Even if the Ranger in question dies horribly next turn, he's done his job and you have 5 more of them waiting in the wings. Plus, they're not half bad at shooting things themselves. Generally, they're not great in melee, but I did once lose a unit of Trollkin Scouts to a unit of Rangers in melee. (somewhat improbable, admittedly)

You - Ha! You've activated my trap card! Allied army! Come forth to assist!
Friend - Sup
Wolf Heathen - An equal point match?! This is not acceptable! Tau friend! Form up on me!

And then some guy throws a manta at the table and promptly breaks it in half sending figures and terrain everywhere.
