In the book, a Chaos Biker champ can take ranged weapon gear, under ranged weapon gear, it states, "A model may replace on weapon with on of the following.."

So, could the biker champ replace the bolter on his bike, as it is a weapon?

Thanks for the help guys!

I would say that the bolter on the bike is part of the bike equipment and therefore isn't an eligble weapon for these purposes.

I think the bike weapon is an option. It is a weapon in his wargear profile.

I'm with Flinty, the Bolters are part of the Bike he's already been upgraded with. He can't replace the Bolters without replacing the whole Bike.

I would say the opposite. Upgrading to terminator armor gives you a new weapon. Would that weapon not be in the character's profile now? Because the weapon is not being held means nothing, it is a weapon that the character has. Therefore it should be able to be replaced.

Terminator Armour doesn't have any built in weapons. Your armour is upgraded but you still have your default CCW/Pistol to upgrade so that argument is void.

A krak grenade is a weapon, perhaps he can swap that...

In CSM, upgrading to Termi replaces all other wargear with new armor and weapons, so the argument is valid. The counter is in the Biker entry itself, it says bikers may replace either their boltgun or the TL boltgun on the bike as separate wargear. The Champion does not get this option.

The only disagreement I have with that is that the bikers may change for a specific set of weapons. Pointing out that bikers are allowed to change those bolters on their bike for another weapon would actually indicate that the Champ can switch the combibolters on his bike for something else, because it is a weapon. If they hadn't given the regular bikers the option to change out their bolters I don't think anyone would have allowed the champion to change his bolters for anything. However now that they've allowed the removal of bike based weapons, I would say that anytime it says "may exchange one weapon for any of the following" is fair game to include the bike's bolters.

Up too 2 chaos bikers can choose to trade thier ccw ,or the bikes twin linked bolters for the follwing. flamer melta plasma. The champion makes his choices from the armor wargear section in that area of the codex. he cannot change his bikes weapon.

The problem with saying he can't change the weapon from the bike because the weapon isn't listed is that he has the bike listed in his wargear.

Take a Chaos Lord as an example. He pays the points for the bike, it is then listed as part of his wargear. The bike is fitted with the TL bolters. Thus the bolters would be viable for selection because the bike is listed, and if the bike is listed then the lord has access to the bolters to change because by buying the bike he now has a TL bolter as an additional weapon. The rule says he may trade "one weapon," is the TL bolter one of the weapons he has access to?

Remember, it does not list what weapons he may trade in for a ranged weapon, it only says any weapon. Take that same lord for example, if I want to trade in the BP/CCW for a lightning claw and chain axe. I've paid for both them, but I can just as easily trade in the lightning claw for a combi-melta, a plasma pistol, or heck I could trade that lightning claw in for the Burning Brand of Skalathrax. Keep in mind it says may trade in one weapon, I can give up the weapon mounted on the bike for that special weapon since there is no restriction placed on the weapon. It doesn't say, a weapon that the lord has listed on his profile, or anything else of that sort. It says I can trade one weapon for another, and with the Lord in my examples I'm living by that rule. It's different than any of the other codices in that it doesn't specify what weapon is given up for the upgrade, this just gives us the option to take whatever weapon is available. The question is, Is the TL bolter available to the lord? If it is available to the lord, it is available to swap.

Purchasing a bike gives access to a twin-linked bolter.

Regular bikers have explicit permission to replace this bolter with special weapons.

Chaos Lords and biker champions can more generally "replace one weapon" with various things.

Can a Lord on a bike replace his twin-linked bolter with a Burning Brand?

This is actually not true in the Chaos book. When a lord upgrades to Termie Armor, his weapons are upgraded for him to PW/Combi-bolter. So the argument was valid. His weapons have changed from his base statline, so can he change them or not?
