After having gotten great feedback on my C:CSM Night Lords army, I decided to explore a different avenue by building a Night Lords list from C:BA, with the intention of representing the Night Lords gene-seed purity and lack of corruption more accurately, while retaining a bloodthirsty, fear-based army.

HQ:
Commander Dante

Elites:
Sanguinary Priest
-Jump Pack

Troops:
5 Sanguinary Guard (3 axe-glaives, 2 sword-glaives)
-Death Masks
-Chapter Banner

10 Assault Marines
-2x Melta guns
-Powerfist

10 Assault Marines
-2x Flamers
-Powerfist

Heavy Support:
Dreadnought
-TLLC
-TLAC

Vindicator

Stormraven
-TLMM free

So, I have a powerful Lord (Dante), plus a Legion Apothecary (Priest), arriving from deep strike with an elite unit of jump-pack Atramentar (Guard). Both units of Raptors (AMs) will have to start the game on the board along with the dread and vindi. The only thing that isn't 100% fluffy is the stormraven, but Night Lords steal stuff from loyalists all the time. This is just another piece of "liberated" equipment being put to a better use in the Long War.

Thoughts?

You - Ha! You've activated my trap card! Allied army! Come forth to assist!
Friend - Sup
Wolf Heathen - An equal point match?! This is not acceptable! Tau friend! Form up on me!

And then some guy throws a manta at the table and promptly breaks it in half sending figures and terrain everywhere.

Perfectly valid list. Its a little bit low on the model count, but there is no reason you will not be able to succeed with this one. Hordes might give you trouble, but no army is perfectly suited to handle every threat.

I like ur list. Seems like it would put a lot of hurt on someone if you focus fire. Id like to see how thi game would pan out with so few models. Post a bat rep if you wouldn't mind.(after playing a game first of course).

I dont like the inclusion of the storm raven in a list that counts as Night Lords. Stealing or whatnot is meh, you can come up with any reason to justify a choice. I just think its a bit beardy and hurts the point of your list "fluff".
I am a CSM fan as well (t sons however) and am one of those people that will tell you to play with your codex and suck it up. Legion lists are gone, probably forever, sadly.Or you can use the 3.5 dex in casual games. I do.
If you are looking for a comp tourney list, CSM isnt it. imho and youd be better off with a loyalist army/necron. Also, nightlords have tactical squads and rhinos as well.

I'll try to get a report up, but don't hold your breath :(. This would be a "long term-buy in" type list.

It's not airtight, but it's not like I'm saying that Imotekh and Draigo are suddenly best friends and hang out in every list together. It's not that improbable that warband of traitor Marines who fight an eternal war against loyalists and pillage Imperial stuff at every opportunity might happen to steal a vehicle from loyalists, find that it fits their tactics perfectly, and keep it.

Fortunately, most people (including GW) are fine with building an army that fits the lore and playstyle of an army that works on the table, not just one that fits the name on the tin. As an example, the "Sanguinary Guard" have the same ability to terrorize their enemy as CSM Raptors, only it actually works on the tabletop, as opposed to Fear which is ignored by almost everyone.

What I would say is if you are planning on having Dante join the sanguinary guard, then the death masks on the guard are a waste of 50 points, as Dante already has one, and a unit that they assualt only has to make one Ld test. So you could reinvest that 50 points else where. Other than that, a perfectly usable list.

Ah, alright, didn't notice that Dante's Death Mask did more than debuff one character.

Yeah it does the de buff and follows the rules for death masks found on the sanguinary guard page.
