Hey Dakka,

I've recently become jaded with my hobby and need a really substantial, slow-burning project I can sink my teeth in to. Something that doesn't mean dropping £300 on an army outright and losing interest, but means spending a little here and there to achieve something truly my own.

To that end I have decided to model an Ork and Goblin army. That is to say a greenskin force that can be used in both 40K and WFB with little change between them.

I'm already drawn to Savage Orcs, so it's looking like the old snakebite warbiker mobs on boars technique and Savage Orcs with magnetised arms and bases perhaps.

Does Dakka have any advice? I've had a cursory look for links and examples of this done before but my google-fu isn't up to par perhaps. If you've any experience with this, let me know because at the moment my only idea is to buy some Savage Orks and a box of 40K boys - but that seems like a waste of the boys

Initial thoughts would be to buy the fantasy kits, then whatever firearms you need from bits sites. With magnets you could beyond bases and arms do conversions like gunrigs for boars and whatnot. Imagination's the limit really.

So what are you going to do re swapping square WHFB bases for round 40K bases? (Daemon players have exactly the same issue, and have come up with a variety of options, good and bad.)

Sounds like you'll need to do a whole lot of arm magnetising, and I'm not convinced you'll save much money. But yes it could be a cool-looking army.

Well I don't want to save money - I'll probably end up paying enough for an army of each - but it'll keep my hobby on in these bleak times of chaos zords and ever more wacky contraptions that have turned me away.

Those warboarkers hit the spot and should be the easiest fix - I'll just swap riders and I was thinking to have the base magnetised in some way so that thematic base objects can be added and taken away.

For the bases you could pin the foot to the base... did it with my warboss, so i could move him from a dreadnaught base to a normal warboss base. cheap and with a pinning tool and paper clips no magnets needed. The arms, you could convert crossbows to be pistols with the bow arms on them,,, kinda fantasy syfi ish. You could do an Feral Ork Theme... with some Snake Bite roots, so not too much conversions needed. Could give models dual choppas for fantasy and a magnatized slugga that stickt to their back. Are you going to use Weird Boys like Zog Wort? Either way what you do it should look pretty epic, just saying, orks are the best at everything.
