Woops! Forgot to mention that we played Purge the Alien or whatever. KP mission. And he had 2 anyway in the form or Sang Guard and Scouts, to be technical.

Why take two guard for the tyrant? Yes you can buff your tyrants toughness but you use the majority for any shooting so you lose that advantage. I'd recommend running a Biomancy Tyrant with a single guard so you use the highest (buffed Tyrant) value

I don't understand sorry. You're saying that I should run a single guard because it buffs my Tyrant more than 2?

Ah of course Dante, and I play BA, oops!. Thought he took the min troops, scouts and DC (which arent scoring), Kill points def suited his army.

What he means is the toughness value of the unit is based on half the squad, so if its two tyrant guard at T6 and hive tyrant with iron arm at t7+ the overall toughness would be 6 as its the marjoirty. If you have one guard and hive tyrant with iron arm the toughness would be the highest half, so if you got a good roll on iron arm the squad toughness would be 9. That is pretty evil!

Not liking the list too much to be honest. Starting off well with swarmlord and biomancy with guard, but that tyrant is a massive points sink - AG, toxic miasma, acid blood and implant attack? That's about 55 points too much. HVC is also not a great weapon to be honest, but the least of the concerns here. With a bonesword he doesn't need the implant attack.

Elites are very lacklustre for 2,500 pts. Deathleaper can be okay, pair of hive guard are good, but single venomthrope and no use of additional slots. Try 3 units of 3 hive guard.

3 raveners. Too small a brood. He has too many units that can kill the whole brood in a turn. Same for the 3 warriors. Also, using the trygon tunnel is generally not worth it as if the trygon comes in the same turn or after the unit they have to walk on from the board edge and only have an 18" gun. If you want the warriors in reserve, try running at least 6 of them and put them in a spore.

HS slots are okay, but troops I would recommend a tervigon. Overall regen on MCs is a bit of a points sink and here I don't think it's worth spending the points as you're not walking into a torrent of fire but playing against another army that wants to close early. So if you get wounded it will be in a short burst and not over a number of turns and so making regen less worth it.

MarkyMark got the idea of what I was saying. You can buff the tyrants toughness to say T9. But you have two T6 guards in the unit. This means that for the purposes of shooting, your opponent rolls against T6. You have effectively wasted the Endurance power. If however, you take only a single guard, you have a unit of two models and then use the highest value in the squad, say T9 from the tyrant. This then means your opponents shooting all has to wound against the T9. Therefore you get the most out of the power as you have effectively buffed the guard to T9 also. So, a unit of 1 Tyrant and 1 Guard would seem to be the most efficient choice.

As he has two tyrants/swarmlords, you just move guard around so you have one on each ...

That's quite a fair point on the 1 TG. I may end up running the Tyrant with 1 TG each. That is quite a good idea.

In terms of adding models, I am quite constricted by what models I have. I have what is above, most of it WYSIWYG, including things like HVC. My Tyrant is holdover from 4th Edition where VCs were decent. Other than this I think I have 8 Spore Mines, 8 Hormagaunts (not even a min Brood), a Broodlord and a Zoanthrope, both of which are in bad repair and need fixing. My Swarmlord is blutacked and can be run with most weapons but due to the weight of the wings I normally run the SL as this allows me to save the 25pts required for Hive Commander.

I tend to try and deep strike my reserves relatively close together, so I saturate the area with targets. That way the opponent has so many targets it is impossible for him not to lose priority. Deathleaper was put in to make up points as I was short, but either way I would be running a Lictor of some sort. I use it to pop light vehicles or assassinate special guys. The fact I can appear anywhere I want means I can appear close to Sgts and special weapons due to directional wound allocation, and if he's Deathleaper he can precision strike as well.

In terms of Warriors I normally have them either walk on or use the tunnel purely for objective holding.

Ah, no problem to thems! Iron Arm Hive Tyrants and Iron Arm Swarmlord, with any other power and Swarm Leader for PE, means anyone who tries to attack dies. Shooti g would be the only way to defeat them relaibly, which handily I have a Zoanthrope and Venomthrope to provide cover.

The Zoany is tall enough to provide a save for the Tyrant and his own 3++ is enough to protect him.
