got a game against some beasts in a few days, and im looking for some tips. army is 1000 pts. my list is for this game set in stone so to speak, and im unsure exactly what the beasts have. although i have an idea.

my list:
SM
bruiser, bsb, if standard discipline
7 ogres IF FC
4 lead belchers
ironblaster

the beasts run a wargor? bsb, a caster of some kind (lvl 2 i think) and a bunch of other beastie things. i think one is a chariot

anyway, any advice for taking on cooking up the beastly horde? my ogres are HUNGRY and havent been fed in a while.

A Slaughtermaster at 1000 points? That seems to be a bit of overkill to me. I would think maybe just run a another (cheaper?) bruiser and maybe toss some bulls in there? It seems like there's a significant lack of model count here.

well i could always sub the slaughtermaster in for a firebelly. i did not really want a second bruiser (yet) eventually i will be adding more characters, but my end goal is a bruiser bsb, a SM and a firebelly. perhaps....

butcher, lvl 2, greedy fist, ironfist = 178
bruiser bsb IF, standard of discipline = 149
7 ogres, ironfists, Fc = 274
4 leadbelchers = 172
ironblaster = 170

leaves me at 943 as opposed to the 995 i was at before... not much to fill in here. eventually the league level will increase and i can buff up the bulls, and add some toys to the SM

the issues im dealing with are:
- the group im playing, and the beasts in particular, are magic centric, and i need some kind of magic counter. a SM/ butcher provides that, and the GM lore can provide key buffs.
- without the SM, i free up 250 pts... enough really for a small unit of IG, or maybe increase size of the bulls... but again, if i do that im leaving myself vulnerable in the magic phase.
- i dont think i can afford to loose the bsb. i need a character with decent LD to keep the bulls in the fight, as they are pretty much my lynchpin.

now: that said, i have no problem adjusting the list, but once i do im commited to using it for the league keeping the same units up to 2500 pts (i can make them bigger and wargear swap but not remove or shrink/consolodate etc)

so i guess.... what are the options i have? aside from just going total combat horde, dropping the ranged support and maybe grabbing a tyrant instead?

the SM is good because otherwise you are too crowded in the Hero department.

At low point levels it is almost impossable to squeeze 2 heroes into the army and have them be decent.

Keep him, plus you will have quite an advantage in magic. getting Trollguts or another buff spell off has a greater effect in small games.

Anyway, with what you have the beasts shouldn't be any threat.

The Ironblaster can pick off any single models he has, or any characters that don't get LoS, and then charge into melee.

Leadbeltchers will have a field day with his units as they will have no saves against their shots.

At 1k beasts are really limited you are looking at maybe 30 gor with a beast banner and maybe a GBS with high 20s maybe low 30s bestigor and some chaff. 'belchers and iron blaster should blow the chaff off the table and the blocks will handle their blocks fairly easily with some buffs. Beasts need magic support to back their combat blocks and at 1k it is very difficult for us.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd
