I had some extra Tau Drones lying around (Drones, why do they send so many?!) and had a crazy conversion idea for some Allies. Please no I get enough of that with my paint jobs apparently. I know its not lore and I know Drones are normally Jetpack Infantry, no need to rant it to me. Sorry if I seem a bit defensive.
Ten Immortals w/Gauss Blasters + one Deathmark:

Deathmark Test Model:

Immortal Close up:

Any painting suggestions? I normally do my drones Stegadon Scale Green/Grey (wish they would make up their minds on the name of that) for the main section of the drone and do the outer ring in Ceramite White, was thinking about reversing that for these.

I honestly would not allow these as Immortals and Death Marks.

They require more attachments to the weapons, cables, power systems, because right now they are just Drones with awkward looking guns glued on, they'd edge to the side due to the weight with the weapon. You need to balance it out a bit more.

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

What blood reaper said, but if you do that, then I'd gladly play against an army like that.

I'd like to see comparison shots between these and the actual models. Right now, I'd probably play against it but not be so pleased.

Yeah, at the moment they are drones with different guns attached. To make them stand out better I would add extra gubbinz on. Especially for the more heavily armoured immortals. Add some extra armour plates and some kind of ammo pack/generator on there and that would also explain awy the lack of jetpack. Too heavy to jump about, but can still grind along The deathmark would probably benefit from extra targetting gubbinz.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

ummm.....I like them and would have no problem fighting them :? if their allies then it's a fluffyer option for tau rather than tau and crons working together. maybe add a power sorce but other than that it's fine

Happy to play against them in a friendly game, coz they're roughly the right dimensions and it's obvious what they are.

Fluffwise I have no problem with the concept, e.g. an insane Necron Lord fusing necron and 'alien' tech to build his army - sure, other Lords would consider this an abomination, but then they can't agree on anything anyway

But I agree with above comments that I'd like more done to the models so that they look less like 'drone glued to a spare weapon' and more like 'hybrid techno-junk soldiers built by insane Necrons', if you see what I mean

Ever heard of robo gear? Because they use these little mechanical legs, you could use them to make the drones into spider type things.I think they would look better if they had bug like legs or if they had power sources etc.

You know what they say kids, drive it like its a rental.

Id play against them anygame, i see nothing wrong with them in fact i like them better then the actual models, plus other necron players will have all the same models you wont, these remind me of the drones in terminator series.

Hmm, cables would be simple and it was something I was considering, but they will have to wait for post-paint as drones are /much/ easier to paint when the disk and lower section are not glued together.

I'll try to get one, I cut the flight stands to be about the height of a fire warrior plus a little up and down variance (by very little) on each one. If thats off from a Necron I'll have to change it a bit.

O.O Armour? I...Had not thought of that honestly! regarding the Deathmark, that is my test model. I hope to get the markerlight from Markerdrones when I actually do a unit of those. Unfortunately there are only two ways to get Markerdrones. >.<

I was thinking more.......Tau experimental drones using Necron tech. I imagine the Tau would use any technology to further the Greater Good, I actually seem to recall some lore about their warp technology having been salvaged and modified from a crashed alien ship originally, so Necron Gauss/Tesla weapons are not a large jump.

Also looking at possibly modifying a Crisis Suit into a Destroyer Lord and a Piranha into an Annihilation Barge. If anyone has suggestions for bits/parts etc to make these look more...Authentic? Please do tell.

I can so see this as an 'alliance' between Tau and Necrons where the Necron Lord is actually trying to subvert the programming of the drones and make them his troops.

The look good. The idea of adding additional cables would be great and I would also add something to counter balance the blank side. Something like the fusion blaster cylinder or maybe a shield generator. It just seems a little lopsided as is.

Hm, I've got some Fire Warrior shoulder pads, backpacks, and grenades that I could possibly use to fill in the side that's blank......

A random question for people who go to tournaments more often than me. I know that these models fulfill the % of GW parts requirements, but if I were to fill in the other side with something good looking and give them a good paint job would they be allowed to most events? Just curious.

Possibly, but I would imagine some opponents may have a problem.

The parts you have sound like they could work, bulking up the Immortals would be the best part, while the Death marks need targeting optics and the such.

The Deathmark was the original test-model to make sure the weapons were not too extreme in size (Though the Gauss Blasters are pretty big) as far as the targeting optic is concerned I'll use a Target Lock.

I've found myself at a bit of a loss as to what to fill in the left side of the Immortals with, a power source of some type sounds great but there isn't anything I can find/think of to fulfill the role. Ideas?
