Hey guys.

I'm new to Warhammer 40k and Eldar, and I've just received the battleforce and codex. I'm just asking for a bit of advice regarding what weapons etc to arm things with. I'm mainly thinking, for now, of using a Starcannon on the Wave Serpent, an EML on the Guardians' weapon platform, Scatter Lasers on the War Walker, and dual Shuriken Catapults on the Avenger exarch. Does this seem like a good idea?

Also, I've read about magnetizing models and I have the tools to do it, except for the magnets. Could anyone tell me what size/width/thickness magnets would be needed to magnetize the Guardian' heavy weapon, Wave Serpent weapons and War Walker weapons?

And I was thinking of getting the Farseer with Singing Spear as my first HQ, then eventually buying another battleforce, a box of either Dire Avengers or Fire Dragons, and a third War Walker, to expand the list. How's that sound?

Thanks in advance guys. Sorry for all the questions!

the only thing I would do different would be either a scatter laser or shuriken cannon for the guardians, wasting an EML on BS 3 just doesn't work out too well, unless they're guided.

as far as your farseer, go for the box that includes the warlocks, split off the locks into your guardian squads for conceal.
The rest of your purchase list sound fairly solid to me, but then again, I'm mostly a troop guy, I run 4K+ of eldar and only 2 vehicles, so.....

EML isn't without its uses on a guardian Squad. Using the plasma fire option has an average chance of a 66% scatter with the average distance of 4". This makes a 33% chance to land a direct hit with half of the remaining being at or less than a 4" scatter. Besides all of that, Scatter Lasers typically pan out better thanks to multiple shots, higher S, and cheaper cost.

Taking conceal on the warlocks is helpful if you don't expect much cover on the board. Else, most folk go with Embolden and use them to sit on capture points.

Your list is pretty good but it lacks a good anti-tank option. Unfortunately, with Eldar, this only comes with the purchase of additional units or guiding the guardians with a brightlance (which even then usually don't pan out very well). You could put twin-BLs on the Wave Serpent but I've never really had any luck with them (BLs in general) and the starcannon will give you that much needed anti-MEQ option. Your best anti-tank options are Dragons, Harlequin and Storm guardians w/ Fusion and Warlock w/ spear. Warp Spiders also function fairly well if they can get behind the tank in question. Shining Spears are good for lighter tank hunting but they are overpriced (both points and $$$).

I can't help you with magnetising I'm afraid but you are off to a good start!
I would change the starcannon on the serpent to and eldar missile launcher instead which is pretty handy considering it is twin linked. I agree with dpal about the EML being a waste on guardians, change it for a shuri cannon or scatter laser instead. They put out enough shots to be effective even with BS 3.
Scatter lasers on the war walker is a great choice and so is the dual shuri catapults on your exarch, also make sure to give him bladestorm aswell.

For your HQ, get the Farseer and warlock retinue box, it's handy for giving your guardians a warlock with embolden or what have you.

Getting a second battle force is a good addition, making you get a full dire avenger squad and another transport. Get the Dire Avengers and Fire Dragons, both are invaluable units to have. The third war walker will give you a full squad of them, I'd say equip them all with scatter lasers, strength 6 shots are very nice.
To add to that, I'd buy a box of pathfinders, you can just sit them on an objective and snipe away from the other side of the board and they truly are deadly troops.
I hope this helps, have fun with your Eldar!

As for new models, fire dragons are a phenomenal antitank unit, and their pheonix lord Fuegan is one of the best ICs in the game and nearly universally overlooked, due to the fact that he can use the new monstrous creature rules to smash people in challenges and he eats tanks for lunch.

As for magnets, just ask at the hobby shop. I just eyeball them and see if they'll fit the models, they're like five bucks for 20 if you're not buying the citadel brand ones.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. I'll do some research into magnetizing etc.

One problem I am having however, is getting the Dire Avenger's helmets right. Whenever I wash the white helmets, even with thinned down wash, I still get streaks/marking from the wash on areas I don't want. Is there any way to ensure the wash remains around the raised 'lumps' on the helmets?

Thanks again guys!

Scatter lasers, EML, and Bright Lances are the best heavy weapons; Bright Lances and EML go best on Wave Serpents where the twin-linking will make up for relatively low BS.

When you're trying to get a nice, smooth, even coat on anything, you're going to need many coats of thinned-down paint to get it to work right. I painted my Dire Avengers back when I was just getting started, and I did a solid coat of unwatered white on their helmets and drew Avenger runes on their foreheads in fine-tip sharpie; it came out well enough that I haven't considered repainting them since.

Hi there.

I use magnets on my Eldar, and I use 3mmx1.5mm cylinders. To fit them, get a 1mm and a 1.5mm drill bit, and a pin vice. GW's pin vice comes with 1mm bits, and is great for this. Drill the 1mm hole, and be sure it's in the right place. Then widen it with the 1.5mm bit.
Use them in pairs in the WW weapons, and you can use them with Wraithlords and Guardian platforms.
Look for "magnetsmagnetsmagnets" on ebay. There are lots off places to buy from, but I always get good service from there.
Don't bother magnetising the DA bosses, as you get a spare body in each set. I only use the twin-gun or forcefield load-outs, but you might get on well with the diresword. You just need to get hold of a couple of more legs, or use some of the Guardian legs that might have too many of.

I got the best set-up for my Eldar with 3 battleforces. Not that I use Guardians, but you end up with 1.5 squads of Dire Avengers, a full squad of War Walkers, and 3 Wave Serpents, for less than paying for them individually (the guardians come free

Get a Farseer ASAP, or two if you play 1000 points or bigger. Eldrad is a bargain, points-wise, in bigger games.
As mentioned, the retinue box is good if you use Guardians.

Once you have all that, other units to look at are:
Fire Dragons, in one of the wave Serpents: Zoom up to tanks, turn the wave Serpent to protect the squad as you drop them off, and burn away.
Rangers: Hide them in some area terrain, and use them to cover your troops holding objectives. If anything big comes close, pop away. If the objective gets cleared, run the rangers up to take it back when it's clear.
Warp Spiders: Great for taking out light tanks or tough squads. They can't get through armour very well, but their guns are quite big against most things.
Guardian Jet Bikes: Good for helping to finish off an assault, and for mopping up unprotected objectives near the end of the game.
