I'm so tired of all the negative threads on this forum, complaining about everything GW does. I'm not an inherently positive guy (somewhat the opposite in fact), but even I get annoyed and depressed at all the negativity around here.
So I thought, "What is it that makes me stick with BL, despite producing the occasional dog-turd?" And then I thought, "so many BL books are NY Times Best Sellers, so others has to feel the same."
My favorite moment of the BL books is really hard to pick out, because there are so many good ones. One stands out though:
In Flight of the Eisenstein, after the warp incursion in the Library (I think aboard the Vengeful Spirit), when Euphrati Keeler manifests her "divine power". That is an awesome moment, and is the first definite instance I've read, where the Emperor actually Protects.
What are your favorite moments in any of the BL books?

I love that bit in Death or Glory as well. I can just about see Felicia Tayber's face when she realizes what Cain has done.
Traitor General is the one on the chaos infested planet, right? where they meet the Ghent or whatever they're called? If it is, then I got to say it's the best of the GG books, imo.

Great idea for a thread, couldn't agree with your motivation more.
Hard to argue with 1068SCP's ideas.
I love almost any insights into the Primarchs, almost anything Torgaddon says in the HH and all the references to the missing Legions.

Anything Dan Abnett writes, really.
And the two missing Legions are likely to stay missing, they're like the Mournland in Eberron, they're there for people to fill in with their own ideas.

That's such a cool moment, I don't really mind! Besides, I got no real beef with Abaddon. It's just anyone who's...

What I liked was AD-B's description of events in response to people commenting on ideas like 'Failbaddon':
Soul Hunter's not a grrrreat showing for Abaddon, because Talos is seeing the moment through distorted lenses. What Talos sees isn't necessarily the man Abaddon really is - he makes a lot of assumptions based on his own understanding of the Legions after the Heresy. I tried to show a little bit of that afterwards, when it turns out that despite the moment's importance for Talos, for Abaddon, he couldn't really have cared less. For Talos, it was a major moment in his life. For Abaddon, it was just Tuesday.

AD-B is actually a big fan of Abaddon. He's trying to write a trilogy based on Abaddon's rise to power. He talks 'bout it on his blog.

I wasn't sure what all the hype was about, but now I'm a dedicated ADB convert. So far, the only truly good author GW has on staff.
Honestly, they should just contract the IP out to other authors ala Halo.

Yeah. Significantly better than the overwhelming majority of the Black Library. Specifically, contracting authors like Eric Nylund and Greg Bear to work with their IP was a much better idea than GW's idea to groom their own in-house authors.

I think Abnett counts as truly good as well (Eisenhorn is one of those very rare 40k books that is good even when compared to the greater modern sci-fi novel community imo), though I agree they need to contract their IP out to other serious sci-fi writers.

Anything Grimaldus does in Helsreach. Like using the devotion chains attached to his plasma pistol as a whip/flail. And later strangling an Ork with said devotion chains, atop a tomb, while reciting his liturgies amidst the rest of his brothers fighting other Orks.
