At the moment im building a 2500pt IG army, it consists (troop-wise) of a command squad, 4 vet squads(3× have haevy weapon team all with chimera transport), 5 ratling sniper team and 1 squad of kasrkins(with vendetta transport). My question is should I stick to vet squads or run with a platoon with HW teams in a seperate squad? I'm aiming for apoc sized eventually, so should I run vets, and future squads be used to make platoons?

If you want to go full-mech, then stick with mechvet squads. If you want a more balanced force, having a platoon with heavy weapons as a firebase is a good start. Armor helps too.

I've got armour covered at the moment, 3x sentinels, leman russ squad(3× different main weapons, all swappable) , manticore and a basilisk.
Hmm.... thinking to stick with vets for now and add platoons as my army grows.

Generally it's not a good idea to get one of everything in a codex. At more than 2000 points, you really should take advantage of the double force org and show up with a lot of a smaller number of units.

Sentinels are bad, Kasrkin should be deepstriking, and Ratlings are meh.

Rock a buncha mechvets in chimeras, and supplement them with artillery support and flyers.

It'll be a solid list.
