In Canada, we still have a music video channel that's geared towards that older, still-watches-TV-on-a-TV demographic. They play lots of Diana Krall videos.

I don't care for movies, personally. I'm all about the story and the acting. If the story can't stand on its own in radio drama form, then the talking-picture version isn't worth my time.
Though I agree that music videos are more about the music than the video, when a video is good, it can be very, very good. A work of art on its own, and an enhancement of the music.

I can't even remember the last music video that I watched, certain not intentionally. As for MTV well I wont even notice if it fell of the edge of the world.

I figured that the real reason why they stopped playing music videos was so that all of us who remembered them could arbitrarily use that fact as a means to dismiss the opinions of those too young to do so.

I love movies but there is some truth in that statement, a movie that is only good in visuals is boring to watch you need a story and consequences so the audience has something to care about.

Sure. Writing is the essential element, whether it's written media, auditory, or filmed. But when you add auditory elements, visual, or both, they become additional dimensions for artistic expression and quality to be expressed.
Just because you can write a poem and have it be beautiful and stand on its own doesn't mean that the music in a song is irrelevant.
Just because you can write a song and have it be beutiful and stand on its own doesn't mean that the visuals in a music video can't be artistic and enjoyable.

I agree, but what I'm getting at is every medium has it's minimal requirements, I'm not going to enjoy a music video if the song sucks, I'm not going to like a movie if nothing makes sense, I won't be happy with the book if the author makes no attempt at appealing to his audience, etc.
