i had an idea to give one of my models an Energy(power) bow im trying to figure out exactly how i can models this without it looking all sorts of funky. was thinking along the lines of like the fuzzy bendy ties, but it may look funky. maybe just painting the string? looking to see what other more experienced modelers can give to an ambitious newcomer. Any help is appreciated.

Have you ever seen Dungeons and Dragons? The lame '80s cartoon? The ranger dude definately had a power bow The easy thing is that when it was inert it didn't really look like anything it was only when drawn it went all lasery. The other thing that instantly is one of the recent ninja games where you get a bow with APFSDS arrows. While stupid it does lend itself to the Avengers Hawkeye(?) style of power arrows, rather than the bow itself being special. Otherwise, just go and look up some pictures of modern target archery kit. With all the counterweights, draw-cams and etched titanium skeleton frames, you'd think the things were designed for hunting sabre toothed tigers

That may be awkward to put together, or you could go with a sort of forked top I guess.

true. but id like it to be length wise. i want to avoid just pinning string through a staff but that may be my best bet. tinting it a little to give the laser effect.

A crossbow or reynbow would be the obvious solution. Then you should have a staff that can fire stuff out the end.

Not sure if it's what you are thinking of, but how about a sort of magazine fed, repeating crossbow either set in a gauntlet (like a Grey Knight storm bolter) or setting it atop the staff similar to an Adeptus Custodes Guardian halberd?
As for how it would work - I presume the bolts themselves would be either be powered by a mini reactor (obviously with a very small life, but enough power to sheath the head in a power field for the duration of flight and impact), or possibly some sort of captured plasma bolt. However, personally, I would avoid just painting the string as a laser, as the laser would surely just cut the arrow (not to mention the archers fingers!) in two, and I don't know how it would possible pass the energy over to the head...
If this is sort of what you're looking for i've included two sites I found that sell crossbows at 28mm scale, alternatively you could just build one from plasticard and greenstuff.
Good luck with the project

the bow from "clash of the titans"? i cant remeber its one of those movies though had a really cool bow that creates light arrows when the string was drawn.

Good luck with the project
where are those sights and thanks for the luck ill need it
in the 41M i sure they can make it so a section pops out to reveal the bow part from the staff. and after use goes back in to become a normal staff again.
i've never seen a custodes halberd, ill google it. that may be the option i go with place it in the middle of the staff or towards the end.

ok i think i got it. ill go with something along the lines of what warpig said.
a cylindrical mag fed crossbow . Drill a hole in tip of a staff(barrel) then attach bow to both sides. something like this

Yeah, that's the general gist of what I was getting at. I do think that the bow may need to be a bit more 'chunky' - possibly a square mag situated vertically over the bow? The below image was sort of the inspiration for that suggestion, though the magazine would have to be more slimline to fit on a staff. This crossbow is an Ancient Chinese Chun Ko Nu - a repeating crossbow - but in the 41st Millenium I'm gathering the handle would just be mechanical to wind the bow back and forth.
As for the Guardian Halberd - it's basically just a GK Nemesis Halberd, with a very high powered lasgun attached.
