As recommended by re-signing up, here is my Intro!

Im an avid 40k player and was active in tournaments about 10 years ago. While I still support the 'Tournament' style of play, I don't get to play in them too often, as Im usually running them for my FLGS. I used to be here on Dakka but left over constant disagreements with certain other Forum members. No this did NOT get me banned, I chose to leave, but missed the great discussions I had with some of the people I disagreed with via PM's. I don't remember what my screen name was, and neither of my E-mails came up as an account, so whatever I was doing then is truly lost to the Warp. Not pretty, but it's honest.

I disappeared during 5th and hated the ruleset, but this edition is insanely fun, and I often enjoy spectating games now. I got hired at my local FLGS, and run the 40k Tournaments here, so I've returned to mainly float around the 'You make da Call' forums. So far, I've been pretty good in ruling with the majority on most issues, which is good, cause I often have to look them up after I make a call as a result of a game/tournament. Then there are a few others that I don't understand how people can even fathom the possibility of certain outcomes. Either way, this is a good place where you can sort through different viewpoints, and then make my own call for my own events, until it gets Faq'd.

I've been playing since 2nd Ed. and started with Tyranids, but didn't really fall in love with the game till 3rd Ed. and Necrons. (Yes, back when we only had 5 units!) I've owned Tyranid, Genestealer Cult, Dark Eldar Wych Cult (when it was unpopular), Ravenwing, Sisters of Battle, Chaos Marines/Demons (Back before the codex split), Thousand Sons, and Feral Orks armies. I still currently own Deathwatch Marine army (used as SW now), Ravenwing (Yes, I've built this army 2x), Fabius Bile Marines (RIP as they're now no longer legal), Grey Knights (11 models at 2k points for theme!), and my Necrons.

I have a lot of complaints about the new Necron dex, but keep em pretty much to myself since I still have a pretty good win record with em.

Also, the necron compaints are 'because they are OP', wich I disagree with

Aside from the Fluff 'rape' which probably doesn't need to have much more said about it. I feel that MOST of the existing units got downgraded to the point where they are pretty much shadows of what they used to be, and it's all the 'New' Stuff that's causing problems. Not surprised as there needs to be incentive to sell product to existing Necron players. Most of my stuff is the old metal 3rd ed. stuff and it's nice to pop in when Im travelling and see the youngn's ask WTF those are. (Even had a GW redshirt tell me they only allow GW models in their store! Had to pop off a base to show him the tab!)

K, should probably get this out of the way since it already came up. This is an introduction forum. This should be the ONE place where players are allowed to state their opinions as to how things are. It's WHO I am.

First of all, Alf, if you like Fluff written by a Chimpanzee with a computer, that's your call. Normally I don't respond to posts like this cause there is only one possible reason for even posting something like that. The old Necron Fluff was destroyed because it lost a lot of the mystery (borderline romance for me) because of the LACK of information. We had this 'Mysterious' that we knew little about. Most of the know history about them outside of the Necrons themselves was with the Eldar and they'd forgotten most of it. That's my feelings on it, and while the new fluff is here to stay, I still call 'rape' on it. I'll look up your Intro/profile when I want to know more about you and your opinons. I'll respect those opinions whether I disagree or not cause it's in your profile, and it's what you choose to support. When you see my hate for things I dislike outside of this thread, then post away there, I posted here cause Im lookin for people with similar attitudes. There are FAR too many Dakkan's to look through their profiles, figure out if they are active, so why not just let me announce who I am so they can find me?

Noob, kinda the same thing but I think Im going to not mind chatting with you. Yes, there is a lot in the Necron Codex that got better, Trazyn is new so he fits. I still feel this is largely due to most of the existing units being reduced as it is introducing new Chars/Units/Rules/Models/etc. I still run most my lists close to how it was, not for any bitter or nostalgic reasons, but because that's how I feel the army is run and it fits my playstyle. As with all players and any codex, If I want to keep up I have to use the current rules. I just chose to start with what I have over what can I get, and it's from this perspective I feel that things got downgraded. I've given in to some of the newer stuff, and have purchased 2 Triarch Stalkers and 2 Nightscythes.

So there, I've said what I felt needed to be said.

People are allowed to state their opinions anywhere on this site, Dakka doesn't infringe on people's rights to say most things (just no swearing or attacking specific users), which means people are just as entitled to their opinions as you are, but that's not what I'm getting at.

I wasn't trying to be argumentative, but you threw out a pretty strong word to describe a hundred pages or so of a man's writing. You called the changes in the fluff rape, which is a strong word that has no place being said in almost any regard on this site (we try to keep things pg-13 or friendlier on this site), and then belittle the writer of the fluff, which arguably is FAR less groan worthy than the two codices before Necrons (Grey Knights and Blood Angels). But to imply that he is nothing more than a chimp banging against a keyboard, simply ignores the fact that he brought life to your cold metal men. You can play your Necrons however you feel, I play my Ultramarines as a strict 2nd Company, using Sicarius even though other named HQs are better (though I have yet to play them in 6th ed). All I'm saying is you're using strong words to make a claim about an army with very little character. There wasn't a mystery to them, they were simply bland, and even the old models look like terminators. A lot of the new fluff BUILDS on what existed. Yes, they changed the way C'Tan's work and how they existed in the Necron army. They took out these gods that the Necrons HATED, and made them masters of their own destiny, yet still completely ruled by the choices of their ancestors and the deals they made.

The fluff still has your standard necron warrior being a soldier that trudges forward at the unheard commands of their lords. The battles they fight are still silent with the exception of the Gauss weaponry firing and the screams of their victims. It's just now, the Necrons have evil lords that like to send infinite mazes as a showing of "Thanks" for regiments of Imperial Guardsmen. They've simply made a very bland army feel more alive.

K, I understand about the PG-13 and didn't think it was over that line, but lesson learned.

My main point was to show that this is an Introduction section. It's purpose should be to get to know the posters, and welcome people here, or in my case BACK to Dakka Dakka. It's the one place where you should want to let people know that there is a good community here, and that we're all glad to see them. Not jump down their throat, flame/troll them, or impose some sense of authority in a virtual environment. This results in people just leaving before they even get going. True that Dakka Dakka doesn't infringe/restrict people's opinions aside from 'play nice' which should be in place. This isn't the place for it, thats what the other threads out there are for.

If you had simply asked WHY I felt the fluff got destroyed, or why I think the codex is nerfed, then that would've been appropriate. It's not a mission to prove me wrong or change my opinion, it's a design to get to KNOW someone else who shares the same passion for little army men as the rest of us. This is something that I felt Noob did when he stated IMHO, it creates discussion. Stating something as fact, when it isn't, belongs in another forum or even board for that matter. Again, if I want to know about your views, then I can find out through your profile. Im actually MORE than delighted to talk about such things, but I'm not here to spend my time off adding stress to my life. Which was a factor in me leaving those years ago.

My opinion remains unchanged, the new fluff is boring, cookie-cutter, un-imaginative, and in some ways restrictive. Altering existing background is something that many players are still divided over. Im in the camp of 'If it would've just been done this way, it would've been okay...'. It's part of Introducing myself to the community. It's not an attack on anyone else, or anyone's opinion. You'll find that Im usually more than happy to actually discuss most of things. If you feel it's sensitive, then PM me, it kills time while Im at work. Trying to convince me that the current book is better rules/fluffwise is better than the previous version, then post a thread about it, so we can get to know about you, vs. everyone trying to find out about who I am and learning about you in the process. That said, Im still glad to be here all the same.
