For I while have been wondering about a Deamon prince for my army.
I'll probably give him wings and a mark of Khorne and send him with my Raptors to flank the enemy.
How do you load out your Deamon Prince and is he even worth it?

I don't really like the new DP. Even if your meta isn't Tau heavy, anyone with a force weapon can pretty easily ID it. Add to that no IC, the fact that it inexplicably has LD9, making it that much less likely to get off expensive powers, and the fact that he can get knocked out of the sky by markerlights, then shot/assaulted to death, makes him a no-go for me.
If I was going to use one, I'd keep it wings, pa, Black Mace, not sure what god.

You - Ha! You've activated my trap card! Allied army! Come forth to assist!
Friend - Sup
Wolf Heathen - An equal point match?! This is not acceptable! Tau friend! Form up on me!
And then some guy throws a manta at the table and promptly breaks it in half sending figures and terrain everywhere. |

Wow, I don't really live in a yes/no gaming world. A maxed out tzeentch DP can really mess some stuff up. In a 2.5k+ battle, turn one if these bad boys loose and it might be worth it. I had one obliterate a Hive Tyrant and the Swarmlord without losing a wound. Biomancy and Black Mace are just wicked. Neither of them failed a T check and they both still died without being able to swing back. Automatically Appended Next Post: That being said, paying more than 250 points for an HQ is expensive.

In theory they're weak and vulnerable and basically giant bullet magnets. In practice, I have yet to see one not make his points back. Check out some actual batreps where they were used as well, I have yet to see one not have some kind of amazing success, especially winged variants. You can skyrocket across the battlefield with the basic flyer invulnerability, and the next turn you're now long-assaulting jump infantry. With a mace you obliterate hordes, with the axe you obliterate anything else (+2S and Furious Charge means 9 STR on the charge) - generally swinging at Initiative 8 and WS 9 which munches most everyone with the ability to hurt you. Tarpitting with him ensures many happy rounds of slaughtering the enemy forces...but if the demon finally succeeds to kill everyone in the area, he's toast when the shooting starts.
Yes, he's a massive points sink, but he does do about as much or more damage than a heldrake or Abaddon, and few people complain about those.

I've had. Mixed success with mine dying first turn to a weird boys shot and then being ko'd by old one eyes HoW but most other times he's either slaughtered whatever squad he got into or drawn enough firepower for the rest of my army to charge up the flank unopposed

I voted yes with the understanding that its often the 2nd choice for HQs after you take a lord, especially if you're running cult troops. If you're going totally Undivided, I think the new default HQ is probably a level 3 Sorcerer with telepathy as a booster/buffer support unit.

It's a good support unit, but I wouldn't take it as my Warlord. Give it wings and let it sit back until the right moment to strike, then fly through the air and slam into whatever unfortunate bastard happens to be below you.
I'm just sad because they don't have any guns. The picture on the page clearly shows a daemon prince with a bolter, but I've noticed a distinctive lack of dakkadakkadakka in game. And to make matters worse, they have BS5! :(

It really depends on several variables including but not limited to: game size, internal army tactics, opponent's army, etc.
Personally, DP w/ DoN, Wings, and Black Mace (at the least, making the DP a psyker and giving him a spell familiar is pretty nice as well if not reeeaaaallly expensive) is what I like to run.

They can take a Burning Brand, which would give them a shooting torrent attack and a vector strike while zooming, however I don't think that their BS would come into play with that either. Does having 2 shooting attacks as an MC allow them to fire off 2 spells in shooting?

You got lucky against the Swarmlord. A smarter player would have had it bubble wrapped in lashwhip hive guard, your daemon prince would have struck second, and the Swarmlord would likely have gotten an instant death bonesabre hit through.

In a high-point game, there is room to fit one. I like tossing the Black Mace on a Khorne prince with wings. Yes, its pricey, but once he lands on a target, those hits get nasty.
