Hi guys,

Some of you might already know me and my Blood Angels:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/351169.page

Well...
Today I present you the beginning of one of my side projects.

A 2000 points army of the Emperors' finest: The Adeptus Custodes.

It will consist mainly of 20 custodes (purifiers), 5 custodes terminators (paladins), HQs, transports and heavy support.

Here is what I have assembled so far. Shoulder pads are still missing because I haven't decided which ones to use.
Also the barrels need to be drilled, holes have to be filled, a bolter has to be attached to the halberd of the left guy etc.

The project is very expensive considering the low model count. The backpacks alone cost me a fortune.... Try to get your hands on 20 space marine commander back packs...

...EXACTLY.

It will also contain a lot of Forgeworld stuff: 2 pre heresy rhinos, 5 cataphractii terminators, 2 contemptor dreadnoughts and a storm eagle (counts as stormraven).

I'd like to thank this guy because I stole his idea:

And my bits suppliers:

Without those guys projects like this would never happen.

Well played.

Really great conversion. You going to do NMM or MM for the armour when you paint them up?

Beautiful, really looking forwards to seeing this progress, glad you haven't just gone with the scibor minis, makes for some refreshingly posed custodes. You had any more thoughts about the shoulders yet?

The ones from Scibor look horribly clumsy.
I would'nt buy them.

I'm thinking about some of these pads:

Those look great. Very expensive recipe but worth it to get the look right I'd say. The legs look a bit thin, I think because the backpack makes them look quite top heavy. How do they look stood next to a Space Marine? Taller?

Good job, keep going!

@Bruticus
Yes, they are taller than marines. Normally posed marine is barely shoulder height to it.
[To clarify, I know since I've been building a Custodes army with a similar plastic base for the last several months, I've built a fair few. ]
Cloaks make them thicker in this variant of the conversion, this may throw you off.

@Evildrcheese: They will be metallic metal. I do not have the skill or patience to pull off the NMM thing. Leave that to the pros. ^^

@Bruticus: Augustine mentioned it already. They are HUGE. The legs don't look so thin compared to a regular marine, especially when you consider that they only were boots. ^^

Well, here's how to cut the cost: Don't use backpacks. Legio Custodes armor doesn't utilise the backpack-style powergenerators of astartes powerarmour but rely on internal powersources.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

@Burstfire:
It's a bit more complicated:

Head - High elves white lions
Torso - Sanguiniary guard
Legs - High elves phoenix guard
Feet - High elves white lions
Weapon - High elves spearmen (spear) + grey knights (falchion)
Cloak - High elves phoenix guard
Backpack - Grey knights interceptor (backpack) + space marine commander (eagles)
Arms - Generic space marine bits
