I'm fairly new to Space Marines and was wondering of other peoples builds/ tactics of command squads, since due to the array of wargear options available they seem pretty neat!
I've got the idea of attaching my commander to one with artifice armour, storm shield and a plasma pistol alongside a squad with another 5 plasma pistols and storm shields and sticking them in a drop pod as all those inv. saves coupled with plasma sounds like a good anti-SMEQ build? Or would that just be pointless considering the points-cost?

Depends on what your build for what its accompanying. If its a shooty character just take the apothecary and 4 plasma guns. That would be violently ridiculous. Im going with to go with my CC character the banner, champion and two power weapons. (Modeled to be eiither power swords or axes in the form of halberds)

It would be rather costly for a 12 inch threat range. Plasma guns would be better in this case. Perhaps go with combi-weapons, or storm bolters, that's 2 shots everytime at 24''.

I can never really see past quad plasma to be honest. I run mine on bikes, but drop-pod could also work if you have a few other units drop with them. They get to shoot twice and then it's total win.

This-plasma pistols only have the benefit of being able to assault, but your command squad isn't set up for assaults. They seem set up to shoot and distract, and the shooting part is done better with plasma guns, while IMO one of the many other units that can deepstrike can do the distraction better and cheaper.

Also, read this article by AbusePuppy-It sums up the flaws of the plasma pistol for me

Command Squads aren't worth taking in 6th edition. In 5th edition they had a niche role as either an ultimate assault unit in a biker army or as a plasma spam squad, but various other developments have made biker Command Squads unimpressive, and Allies make getting plasma much easier as well.

When you consider that Captains themselves are not particularly strong choices, there seems to be little reason to field a Command Squad in 6th edition.

I would ditch the squad all together myself. But if you really want to play, apothecary and 4 plasma guns is the most sound loadout in a razorback

4 plasmas on bikes is still a very viable build. In fact IMO it's the only way a command squad can be played in 6th. And if you have a captain on a bike you may as well run a bike list having a whole army with a 3+/5+ and toughness 5 is pretty solid.

I run 3 different ways

4 plasma on bikes

3 LC one champ on bikes

6 LC standard no bikes

Each unit is the same price as my landraider and work well.

I've been having quite a bit of success running the following:

4x Plasma Guns, 1 Fist, Bikes. - 290

With the Bike captain rocking a fist and a rune priest with divination i have 4-8 TL plasma shots flying around. Its also a fairly nice answer to flyers...

How would a build of 4 meltaguns be? My friend just bought the SM megaforce and is wondering how bet to equip them. 4 meltas + apothecary in a razorback should be able to destroy any vehicle it encounters shouldn't it?
