So, I recently got a couple of metal models for my new chaos army, but as they're..."pre-loved"...I need to strip them. I have no white spirit and can't get simple green. Does anyone know of any household substances that I should already have, and wont need to go out and buy?
Thanks in advance,
LazzurusMan

Fairy Power Spray. Bloody awesome stuff.

I second Fairy Power Spray. It can strip paint off metal in minutes (although I found it best to leave it soaking in it for an hour or so, just to be sure).
Plus, it's great for stripping plastic models too!

Unfortunately I have none and can't get any atm, so I ended up leaving Typhus and two other models in nail polish remover for about a day. Typhus is nearly as new but the other two are wonderfully stubborn -_-

ABS brake fluid works well on both plastic and metal miniatures, and won't damage either.

Does white spirit weaken metal? I've used it before on chunky models, but I have a brettonian maiden to strip (not everyday I get to say that) and she's got really thin arms etc.
I need to know as acetone nail polish remover is doing good...but it seems that the new washes and some other GW paints are immune :/

you can get huge bottle's of Dettol off ebay. Thats great if you plan to do a lot. and is cheap.
word of caution, use a very well ventilated room, or have a lid for whatever container you use.
also invest in some rubber gloves, you dont want it on your hands.
and finally, dont put anything plastic in for longer than a day, it will get melty.... very melty.
If however your only doing a few pieces, or have the money, use Fairy Power spray. it has none of the above downsides.
except maybe in large quantities.

Start with brown Dettol, that will get 90% of it off. Finish with Fairy Power Spray. That will get the rest and get rid of the smell and possible tackiness.

Well I've cleaned most of typhus down to bare metal...I just need something other than a pin and a battle-barge full of patience to get the paint out of all the little nooks and crannies :/
