A bit premature, as I haven't done any actual work yet, but I've ordered stuff and this is more an aide memoire at this point. We shall see how far I get.
So I've been down with a weird inner ear infection that makes me dizzy, and also has given me a whole week unexpectedly off work and my little brain hates my wallet so its come up with how to do a Mass Effect tribute using GW models. Obviously finishing off my Starcraft tribute isn't enough for my brain (Damn you brain)
So far I've ordered a box each of Necron Deathmarks, Praetorians and Wyches. This should cover Turians, Geth, Humans and Asari nicely (5 of each). I've also got plans for Krogan, but I need more Stealthsuit bits and I'd rather not buy a whole pack just for the legs (again... sorry, Zealot flashback).
Now in terms of what army, I think they will fit into Space Marines most easily. In my mind a combination of armour and kinetic/biotic barriers will give Power Armour equivalence. This would also give me an opportunity to give my Terranwing some vanilla marine support (Also it means I only need to do small squads)
Ideas so far are:
M35 Mako as a las/ plas razorback
A squad of Asari biotic commandos as assault troops (biotic charge, anyone?) Are Vanguard veterans worth it?
Commander Shepard as force commander (obviously)
Friendly Geth and Humans as tactical marines
Turians as Sternguard maybe?
Hmm... I haven't thought about how to do Salarians yet, but an STG squad would fit the scout role nicely.
Atlas mechs would work as Dreadnoughts (in fact it was a dreadnought conversion I saw that kicked this idea off in the first place)
Heh... Jac as a librarian would be amusing
I don't really need more terminators so I'm happy for suggestions for Krogan, but they'll use Terminator bits anyway... hmmm.. must ponder more.
There is even a gunship unit that could be a stormtalon
Another variant might be to use the Space Wolf codex and go with Lone Wolves for Krogan... hmmmmmmm... This even brings the STG more into line with the Wolf Scout ideal... neato.
Anyway... thats it for now. Hopefully more updates when my kits arrive

I will watch this with interest. I've been wanting to do some Mass Effect minis for a while now, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Ooh, ooh just had another thought. Elcor as long fangs toting missile launchers I'm thinking modified Krootoxen with weapons harnesses as described in ME3. Doing a bit of counts as, you could use 3 as a 6-man long fang squad with removable markers for wounds. Probably not valid for any tournaments, but thats really not the point of this exercise, after all

That only works if you have a Volus riding the back of the Elcor shooting the missile launchers.

Naaah. Ignore the rider and just have a direct neural interface for firing the missiles, it'll be fine Volus are too squat-like for my liking anyway Anyway, actual progress. I've got the Mako mostly sorted out: This is a Claymore from Old Crow cut down to more closely match the size of a Rhino and will act as a las- plas razorback with the help of the plasma pistol muzzles stuck on the turret side ount. That mount is also magnetised for weapon destroyed results. The turret is from the Slingshot I murdered for my Terranwing seige tank and I think its a lovely piece. I still need to tidy up the rear where I chopped the thing up. I will build up to the rear hatch and add some other details o the other side to hide the join. Not sure if I will use a vent or some stowage. Oh and linked here are pics of the original Mako design. Its a pretty close match I think. The Mako is somewhat more slender and has a pair of hatches that the Claymore doesn;t allow for, but otherwise its pretty close Due to the high quality resin used by old crow this is the direct result of cutting the damn thing apart: Yes, there was blood on the back of the tank

Manbabies for Kanluwen, certainly. Nice find @Bobthehero - I was going to try and do a selection of the main characters. I'm drowning in snipers, though, with both Legion and Garrus having their own take on the art. However this doesn't mesh well with using STG troops as wolf scouts, and who arms wolf scouts with sniper rifles anyway I guess I could go back to codex Space Marine and have a terminator chaplain as the Krogan... Actually, that works as well... hmmm. More pondering to do!

Some tiny progress while I wait for more mansies from GW. First up is a prototype Turian helmet:
A handily carvable Guardian helmet formedthe base of this with some simple GS filling and shaping. I will see if I can get the same tail effect without needing to sculpt, but it might be a bit too long to fit in the existing helmet shape. We shall see when the thing is dry.
Also started on the Krogan torso:
As should be painfully apparent, this is a Terminator chest piece mated to a carved up Stealthsuit body left over from my Zealot work. I've got spare SS legs winging their way to me as well as they are a great fit to the Krogan legs. I'll have to shimmy them into place somehow, but it should come together nicely. Terminator arms will finish it off. Not sure if I will give him a Wrex-tastic shotgun or a more stormboltery N7 assault rifle. I will also fill the rear space where the SS sensors usually goes with a Grunt-esque reactor core, but I will wait for the curent GS to dry before fiddling with that.

So now I have my extra bits and pieces I've done some more work. The first Asari now has most of a head and body ready to rock. clickable for larger pics. The GS is still drying on this lady, so no tacked-up WIPs: I've GS'ed her arms and have a Tempest ready to go. For CC weapon I will be trying to do a proper glowy holographic blade, but more on that later The first Geth is pretty much sorted. I'm still not amazingle happy with the Geth Assault Rifle, but it will work for now. Those multiple curves the things have are a pain in the bum! The first human is also on the way. Her helmetvisor is still drying, so again no tacked up WIPs: The krogan upper body is basically done now with his new head and he even has a shotgun. Just waiting for more stealthsuit legs to finish this guy off. And the Turian is also pretty much sorted out. I'm just waiting for the GS to dry on the vindicator rifles so I can mock the final version up: And the Vindicators themselves: Now its just a case of waiting for one set of GS to dry before adding the enxt. Lets see how long this takes to do in reality

Hmmm. Didn’t quite make it to a decade between updates...
With the advent of Stargrave and the new edition of 5 Parsecs I thought I would dust off this creakingly old project and see if I can finish some stuff off. I still have all the part built and unloved bits lying around...
But the main impetus was a Kodiak I printed and I am painting for this months painting challenge.
Printed from here
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3240009
And this is what it looks like in person
Supposedly able to carry a dozen fully kitted out troopers, so I think it’s about the right size to be a generic transport shuttle for a crew of 8 to 10. Printed to match the height of my models so they can get around inside without stopping too much.
And then with paint.
It wanted to be blue.
Just reached the stage of detailing the front end a bit. Moving on to the back end shortly.
Oh well. Let’s see how long my attention stays here...

Thanks Gwynn. No decals though, I 3D printed a bunch of stencils and airbrushed over them. Really happy with how they have come out though. Need to do a few more stencils tonight for other random details for the back end.
