This is about the embarassing lessons we all learn.
So I just learned that I have to keep up on other dex's and FAQs because of last week. A bit of quick backstory.
Saturday had a 2vs2 tourney where the winners and only team to beat me and my partner won because they had an outflanking Vendetta come from the side and drop vets that removed us from an objective. It was the corner deployment type and if they had come in from anywhere else we would have been good. So lost first at the tourney because I didn't know that Vendettas don't outflank.
Sunday I was in an escalation league playing a 1250 match against IG with three Vendettas. I play Tau so the outflanking Vendettas came from the back sides on turn 2 and just wrecked all my suits because of the way they were placed. Coming from the back table edge, I would have had a much better chance. I also didn't expect the HQ to boost their reserve rolls so didn't expect all three to come in on turn 2. He also dropped a unit of Vets that scattered onto a building and he wasn't able to deploy in a circle around the character because he was on an edge with my crisis suits right under him, and totally should have called him on that. Basically just a terrible game on my part since I was so concerned with three Vendettas.
Ok, not as quick as I thought. Anyone have any stories or gripes about hard lessons? This one FAQ has messed me up so much in two days and I feel like such an idiot for not paying better attention. But I'm going to start researching more armies and FAQs from now on. Lesson well learned.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."
"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

FYI there's some debate on whether the Vendetta FAQ means they lose all benefits of Scout or if they just lose the redeployment benefit.
It'd be a TO call usually.

I don't see the debate.
Q: What benefits if any do the Vendetta get from scout
A: It has no effect.
But I also got into an argument with a Necron player who thought he could bypass the drawback to a flying transport with fluff.
My knowledge of different armies is pretty limited. I just haven't found the time to go through every codex or tactics page. I need to start making time for it though. I thought I was familiar with IG until I got handed such a huge defeat.
Here's another hard lesson from 5th. Kroot suck.
Had a unit of SW between FW and Kroot. Distances were perfect where I'd be shooting the unit to death while he tried to chase one down. UNTIL a third party friend came over and started telling me about how Awesome Kroot are in combat. So I charged instead of shooting, got the entire unit wiped out my turn, then got my FW charged and killed on his turn. This was for a campaign game. Would have tabled the guy and gotten a huge lead if not for that one mistake.

Having Scput also confers Outflank.
I'm not saying its great support, but its not like you were cheated - the FAQ needs to be reworded.

Atleast being able to argue against it would have given me some satisfaction. I'm not saying they cheated (Maybe in the tourny cause they did some skeptical stuff) but just misread some things.

Might help if you include the rest of that quote from the FAQ there mate. "What effect, if any, does the Scout special rule have on a Valkyrie or Vendetta? Will this allow it to enter play in Turn 1 by redeploying 6" onto the board? (p56)" It has no effect. There's still some debate on whether it's just removing the redeploy (which is obvious, that should be gone) but whether or not it removes outflank as well. If they had wanted to get rid of scout and give it no benefit whatsoever, why didn't they just say "Remove the scout special rule for Valkyries and Vendettas"? When they got rid of Lumbering behemoth for russes, they outright said "replace lumbering behemoth with heavy." When they removed direct fire from griffon's and basilisks, it outright stated "Ignore mention of direct fire entirely. Hence the argument for why it can still outflank, as while they got rid of the redeploy, they don't really talk about outflanking, so some people are saying the vendetta still has it. Essentially, GW is from England but has the worst grasp of the English language ever, and people are arguing the intent of what they said, again. To be honest, I'm not sure which way to rule it. While I don't feel the vendetta needs the outflanking ability as well, I can sympathize with guys running vendettas who are used to outflanking only to be told that that's not allowed anymore. After the Lumbering Behemoth change to Russes, I was hoping they wouldn't outright change any more of our vehicle rules, but it looks like that's not going to happen. And to be fair, maybe the guys didn't know? I'm still breaking the news to local IG tank commanders that our Russes no longer have lumbering behemoth. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to know that guys running vendettas wouldn't know yet either, as this wasn't added till the latest FAQ, which isn't very old.

I thought that the Leman Russ got the Heavy rule which was better than the old Lumbering Behemoth rule.
Yeah, I don't think they knew that or even read the FAQ that way. And the FAQ is written terribly (too many of them are, really) Since the FAQ asks 2 questions and gets 1 answer. Does it apply to both questions or only 1? As written it looks like it answers both.
But I'm not saying the guys were taking advantage of me not knowing or that they were doing it intentionally. I'm just saying that I feel like if I would have known, I could have brought up the issue. If I were at least able to argue and get a local ruling then I would have faired a better chance in both cases.
And to be very fair, the team game was against the exact opposite of what I was prepared to face and the escalation was a lot more of my mistake than anything else. I keep telling myself I should have DS suits, but I'm not sure if Vet squads and Vendettas would have just removed everything from the table that turn.

Depends. On things like Punishers, Exterminators, and Executioners, yes it made them better. They're pretty good now.
It really screwed over the LRBT with lascannon (which all of mine were) and completely neutered the demolisher.
We went from a tank that could move 6+ D6" in the movement phase and flatout, with the ability to fire a lascannon along side the main cannon, to an assault tank that can only move 6" period, and only fire it's main weapon at normal BS.
Basically completely scrambled what was good and what wasn't on a Russ.
All I know is now I have to "fix" 3 leman Russes that have hull lascannons, and that makes me unhappy
