Hi guys, my friend has laid down a challenge and I just can't come up with a list that will work!

If anyone could help me it would be hugely appreciated.

I have:

Space marines:

38 tactical marines (changeable weapons).

5 deathwing terminators.

3 raven wing bikes.

Drop pod.

Iron clad dreadnought,

Landraider.

Razorback.

3X captain.

Librarian.

5 X scouts with s rifles.

5 man command squad.

Eldar:

2X wraithlord

fire prism

2 x wave serpent

firedragons x6

warp spiders x5

direavengers x15

guardians x26

war walkers x2

rangers x5

warlocks x3

farseer

eldrad ulthran

karandras

6x striking scorpions

I really hope someone can give me some pointers on this cus the guy from gamesworkshop advised me which marines to buy to combat blood angels and I think I have been had judging by responses to the list he preposed!

Armaments on the War Walkers, Wraithlord?

What does your opponent use?

Magnetic weps on WW's and WL's so no worries there.

He will probably be fielding mephiston, brother corbulo, deathguard, preds, assault troops, rhinos, termies, a vindicators, a veteran squad giving mephiston cover, possibly a librarian for the psychic hood etc...

Thanks for the reply!

You want anti-armor and stuff to handle tough heavy infantry in small numbers. Take the Eldar as the primary list, use both Wraithlords to tarpit any assault troops since he's likely fielding them in small numbers, and field as many Starcannons and Bright Lances as you can get your hands on. If you're at 2,5k using both Eldrad and Karandras is certainly an option, Karandras and a Striking Scorpion squad can probably take a Death Company unit and some Assault Marines. Use the vanilla Space Marines book for your Allies so you can get some fun Librarian powers. I haven't used an Ironclad Dreadnaught myself since it isn't in the Dark Angels book, but AV13 and two heavy flamers can't hurt, back up the Wraithlords with it.

BA can be played a number of different ways. So my question to you is what kind?
Is it razorspam with a bunch of predators and baal preds?
Is it DoA list?

Depending on his list/style you need a different counter.

If he's taking both Mephiston and a Librarian, definitely take Eldrad, especially since he has the Runes of No Fun Allowed (Aka Runes of Warding).
That will effectively shut down any Psychic shenanigans.

Also definitely yes on the Wraithlords and War Walkers.

For the Warwalkers, I'd say 2 Starcannons each. These will punch through Terminators and Assault Troops like they weren't even there. Then for the Wraithlords, arm them with Bright Lances possibly. I haven't played Eldar in a while but those were always a good bet. Wraithlords in general are just really good haha

So with the above stuff, you've effectively neutered Mephiston and the Librarian which is a big chunk of points. Wraithlords wreck normal marines so no worries there.

Then for allies, taking some Deathwing Terminators (all with TH/SS, though have one with a CML) would be a really good idea. Even Vindicator rounds will just bounce off of them!

Nice one guys ok heres what I've got so far from what you've said:

Primary, eldar 1499 points:

HQ:
Eldrad Ulthran.

Karandras.

Troops (not sure about this one):
Guardian squad (13 man with star cannon, not BL as bs3?)

Guardian squad (13 man with starcannon)
Mounted in wave serpent with twin linked star cannon.

Elites (not too sure here):

Striking scorpions (6 man with exarch and power fist)

Fire dragons (6 man)
Mounted in wave serpent with twin linked bright lance.

Fast attack:

Warp spiders (5 man with duel death spinner exarch).

Heavy support:

Wraithlord (EML/Bright lance and 2X flamers)

Wraithlord (EML/ Bright lance and 2x flamers)

War walkers (2 with starcannons)

Ally, space marines/ 916 points:

HQ:

Captain - How could I load him out?/basic for this list atm (not librarian due to ROW?)

Troops:

Tactical squad (10 man with ML and flamer plus sergeant with combi flamer for wall of death)

Tactical squad (6 man)
Mounted in a razorback with lascannon

Elites (or the ironclad dreadnought):

Deathwing terminators (4 with TH/SS and one with CML)

Fast attack:

Ravenwing bikes (3, 2 with melta guns, sergeant with plasma pistol and chainsword),

Cheers for the input, with this list I will be on 2415 points and there will be a load of room for changes. What do you think?

DAaddict - He's coming up with a new strategy just like I am and will use models I have never seen but in previous battles he has used two rhinos to rush either death company with chaplain, tactical squad with brother corbulo (and his annoying 2+ FnP at the front taking the saves), or mephiston with a veteran squad. He also deploys a pred or two, a vindicator and a devastator squad to soften me up before deep striking assualt squads and termies. He was mostly an infantry force with plenty of feel no pain and furious charge going round.

You're not allowed to put any unit in a Wave Serpent unless it has twelve or fewer models...

I have limited exp with the Elderly, but I think a farseer spitting out 'doom' and 'guide' with fire dragons vs. his death star is a pretty effective way to make some points back. Maybe tie up mephiston for a bit?

I think Eldar as primary is OK. Take the prisms for ranged anti tank and bubble wrap with gun line salamanders. Twin Linked flamer goodness when he charges, which he inevitably will. WALL OF DOOM!!! Plus if you are taking TH/SS Vulkan will give them master crafted... take all meltas on the bikes. change from las cannons to assault canons maybe on the razorbacks. Max str 15 heavy 4 twin linked vs a single TLLC at Str 8.

Soooo. my advice (likely poor):
Dump the captain... take Vulkan
Maximize flamer, combis and meltas
Normal Dred (HF, MM, DCCW) both the flamer and melta would be Twin linked.
All hammernators.

Employing a medium/short range list (Salamanders) with predominantly Highly mobile ranged attackers (Eldar) would be my goal in this situation.

BA FNP is all centered on 1 W characters... this sounds like fighting fire with fire... rangers or pathfinders... perhaps even a farseer with Mindwar. Just kill those cupbearers and laugh at him.

I would not take the scorpions - sadly all eldar CC is kind of junk. I would rather you have 2 units of 5 firedragons.
Kill him with firepower... any HTH you take reduces your firepower so avoid it unless you see a specific role for it.

Lose Karandas and replace with an Avatar.... The points savings are worth it as well as the fearless bubble.
