Trying out space wolves in my GK builds lately and I keep wanting to put in 2 rune priests for redundancy and board coverage along with LD 10 protection for low squads of like long fangs. I know there has been some confusion on how many HQ's you can have but wondering if any concensus has been reached.

So in my army I'd have like 2 GK HQ's and possibly 2 rune priests. Is this going to be legal?

The issue lies in the wording of the SW army special rule allowing you to field two HQ's per slot. From context, the rule refers to a SW army as your primary detachment (especially since it is referring to a primary detachment FOC). The counter-argument is it says HQ slots and doesn't specify any further. If in a Tournament ask the TO, in a friendly game, check with your opponent. That being said, while I am of the opinion that it is illegal, I would still allow it in a friendly game.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

The The Leaders of the Pack rule specifically states "each HQ 'slot' allows you to take up to two HQ choices". There should be no confusion that you are explicitly allowed to take one or two SW HQ when selecting them as allies.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

Except the rule as it is written refers to the primary detachment foc, and there is no errata saying it applies to the ally foc as well.

That rule is attached as a note for HQ's (compulsory and optional only) on the standard FoC chart in the Codex (p81).
That chart isn't used for allies. No change or FAQ has added it to the allied HQ option.

Of course technically that chart isn't used at all anymore (otherwise SW's couldn't use Allies for Fortifications). So strict RAW the Leaders of the Pack rule can't be used at all.

I know that polls don't really mean that much but it seems like majority at least will seemlingly allow this. Possibly at Toruny even?

I'm wondering now does this 2 HQ thing will also apply to chaos daemons for 2hq's of lesser daemons champions per slot now.

It seems that the intent of the rule is to give space wolves access to more leaders. Given the substantial changes to the froce org chart in 6th I would say that it would apply to an allied detachement as much as it would to a primary attachement.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

SW 2 for 1 HQs applies to SW armies (Leader of the Pack, C:SW, pg. 81 "In a Space Wolf army..."). CD 2 for 1 Heralds applies as armies and allies since it is a rule for Heralds and not CD armies (Daemonic Heralds, C:CD, pg. 80 "...a single HQ choice allows you to take UP TO TWO...").
